As a lover of the Bible, we might want to look at some history.
One thing to note that is up until the middle 1800s, illiteracy was at about 98%, so Catholics and Protestants alike were not really able to read the bible if they had gotten one.
Also, the cost of Bibles would be the equivlent of 10,000 to 30,000 in the early stages of the printing press.
