If you notice my posts, you will see that I haven't put forth that fallacy. The pandemic has grown beyond such a simplistic solution.

As to the Sesame St. program, it is not unreasonable for the South African producers to have an HIV+ character on their program. However, the holders of the Congressional purse strings are quite right to give notice of their concerns to the American producers. Personally, my problems with Sesame Street go far beyond the subject at hand. Hence, any children, I have responsiblity for will not be seeing the program on a regular basis if ever.

I never said that the queers and dope addicts started it, they just helped spread it. And that the majority of the people associate it with them.

As for Sesame Street, I think the letters SS is appropriate for the program.

What's wrong with the program? Are you so blind that you can't see the forest through the trees?

Almost everything is based on SELF! It is in you to do good! You can make things right! The government has the answers! NOTHING about the Lord Jesus Christ!

Where have we heard these lies before? Satan to Eve, maybe? Morally and ethicaly the program might be proper, but it is promoting heresies and blasphemy and that are children could maybe be their own god? Just maybe? Is it worth the risk? Fathers, is it worth it, for us to stand before the Lord and try to give an account about the affects of SS on our children, if in fact these things are true?

    When in question, stay away!

But, we as Born Again Christians, that are saved by the shed blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and have liberty from legalism.

Just a couple of notes from your moderator:</font>
    • In quoting from previous posts, I only quote the section I want to comment on. The word SNIP is used to show that I haven't forgotten the other parts of the post. I just want to keep folks from having to plow through a whole post for me to comment on one small section. It should not be thought of as coming from a feeble attempt at humor.</font>
    • This thread has gone to a third page. So, I am giving the six hour warning. It is now 12:47p(PDT)/3:47p(EDT/Board Time). I will close this thread No Earlier Than 6:47p(PDT)/9:47p(EDT/Board Time)</font>
Thank you for your good posts so far. I hope to see more as we finish up this conversation.

    Thanks Squire,

I'm finished and won't be posting again. I still don't have an answer to my question and it appears that I'm not going to get one.

    Oh, well. C'est la vie.

    Movin' on.

    Peace-

How about a Herpes muppet? Did I hear Syphilis?

AIDS is an STD, and though there are some innocent folks afflicted, as there are with the other STD's, there is no question that a debauched, promiscuous lifestyle is the primary catalyst for its "epidemic" proportions.

No, an AIDS muppet is not there to promote compassion, it is there to indoctrinate.

[Edited to correct the spelling of syphilis.]

And before this thread if closed:

Scarlet, you need to read my last post. I thought your queastion was answered quite well.

Also, what people don't realize, is that not so many years ago, they quarintined contageous persons, as to protect the INNOCENT CHILDREN.

BUT NO! NOW we can't offend the queers, druggies, harlots, and adulterous people, they have the rights to spread their misfortune to the innocent among us.

Sorry people! Most of this was caused because of the godless liberals in government and those that influence our gonerment . And now that I realize, some Christians as well!

In Jesus's day they put the lepers into their own colonies and they had to braodcast that they were lepers as not to spread it. BUT NOW! We are much more civilized and pious, as we can't hurt these perverts feelings, and they have the right to spread it into our society.

    These are my opinions!

What's with Jerry Falwell? Surely this quote must be out of context! Or is he getting dementia?

I remember the "innocent?" Howdy-Doody Show...my, my how things have progressed~

Here are some things I'd written down for future reference: Barney, the purple dinosaur...fuzzy, warm, a lot of fun to many children. The scheme is based on transcendental imagination, which Barney teaches when he says to make their world what they want it to be. Look deeper and you will find a form of psychology, "transformational", which is clearly connected with witchcraft ideas and has always been rejected by Bible-believing Christians.

The Lion King is full. Almost every scene is an idea out of voodooism: from reincarnation to astral travel, communication with the dead and the constant presence of the witchdoctor, who uses a magic potion and clearly leads the animals in pagan worship. I'm sure you all know of other implications with Disney productions.

There are many others that could be mentioned: the purple teletubbie-for one; the Saturday morning 'children' shows. And then there's the video games-horror! I don't get out much, but I do read a lot & I do know the winds of change blow stronger and stronger.

Children's programs/books are instilling negative values, such as humanism, evolution, lying, sex, drugs, rock music, occultism and violence. Please don't wait until your children have gone so far down the road to destruction that the way back is too difficult for them and for you. I can imagine a good search on the internet would reveal much to the discerning parent.

Crazy Cat, I am being as compassionate as I can be considering the circumstances. I live, work and minister in Corinth-by-the-Bay (aka San Francisco, California). I have witnessed the swath this disease has cut through my home town. All things considered, I will reserve my compassion for the innocent victims of this pandemic. Regretfully, I can not fully extend it to those who acquired it through sinful activities. It is really a matter of doing a balancing act. So, the asking of hard questions should not be confused with a lack of compassion.

Actually, I think that's *exactly* who compassion should be extended to. They are in desparate need of it. Christ repeatedly demonstrated you can have compassion without condoning, and calls us to do the same.

</font>[/QUOTE]I would note for my brother that I carefully choose my words. The key here is how does one define compassion.

If you mean an unquestioning acceptance of the consequences of sin, that, regretfully, does not figure into my definition. The pressure out here is to be mushy-gushy over the situation.

If however you mean giving aide and comfort to those, who (in the providence and sovereignty of God) have repented of their sin either for salvation or for restoration, then that does figure into my definition.

I think I have addressed those who are innocent bystanders but are caught by the collateral damage.

I don't exactly mean either of those things. We should simply show compassion. Not conding the sin, but regardless of whether they have repented or not. And especially if they haven't! They shouldn't be "rewarded" with compassion for doing something we think they should do, but rather maybe our compassion despite the situation will actually show them true Christian love (what a rare thing indeed!) It could even potentially even open the door for future repentance. Why would any AIDs-suffering flaming-homosexual ever want in a million years to be a Christian when all they see from their perspective is the back of Christians running away?

Show them some *real* love and compassion - for no reason and expecting nothing in return - and God can work miracles. And even if he doesn't, you'll be following Christ's example, and I believe you will be rewarded for it.

I'm just glad God thinks differently than many in this thread. We don't deserve compassion any more than the raging homosexual, dying of AIDs and unrepentent.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Think about that, in the context of this discussion on AIDs and homosexuality - that's mind blowing. [IMG]

But the primary means of infection is NOT a promicuous lifestyle--anunsantitary lifestyle, maybe, but not promiscuous. You won't find a Hepatitis Muppet because they don't want to promote unclean living conditions.

Yet they're being "compassionate" when promoting a sexually perverted lifestyle.

Funny how when counter-culture "Christians" get in our face it's called "compassion."

In closing, maybe I haven't made myself clear. I feel no less compassion towards a drunkard who suffers from the consequences of his sin than I do towards the homosexual/IV drug addict/adulterer/... who suffers from the consequences of his/hers. However, locally it is a matter of politics on how I show this compassion. To some, it may seem like I and others of my ilk are hard hearted. But, we will not make common cause with the homosexual community on this or anyother issue.

A good question and one that hasn't been asked yet is, "Okay, Squire, you talk alot and talk is cheap. Has your church lost anybody to AIDS?" The answer quite frankly is, "Yes, though we are a small congregation, we are located two blocks west of Polk Street. So, over the years we have had two members that I know of die of the disease."

I will be happy to respond to any further comments via the PM feature.
