During WW2----there was a story printed of a GI that was saved from a German bullet to the chest because he had his Government issue NT Bible in the front pocket of his coat----the Bible actually stopped the bullet from penetrating the chest

The story was printed and other troops read it---and started wearing their same NT Bible in their front coat pocket covering their heart---many figured---if it worked for the fella I read about in the paper---it ought to work for me

Unfortunately----many soldier died with his Bible over his heart

No, I don't believe in luck. I do believe that believe that "things" happen in spells. (usually of three for some reason) And that much that happens is just a natural process of life on earth.

In your case, if I'd had so many electrical devices to go out at once and was sure there was nothing wrong with my wiring, I'd be calling the power co out to check for spikes and drops in my power supply. (this can kill a computer fast!)

I'd also be checking my main supply breakers. They can and do go out and can have some funny effects inside the house.

Luck no, common to life on earth, yes.

MK, we were well aware of the threes thing when I worked in a nursing home. Seemed that if someone passed on, two more followed. And it usually started on a full moon...I attribute that to some scientific thing that people either refuse to believe or haven't discovered yet though, cuz a full moon in certain areas of the country always means a really bad migraine for me. Not just occasionally, but every single time. There's also something about fishing during full moons...

The electrician did say there's nothing wrong. (then again he is an employee of the owners and an electrician who lived here before mentioned to us something about stuff not being grounded right) I'll have to ask hubby about surge protectors. I had them in Ohio because we had so many storms, power outages, and other stuff going on that messed with the electrical supply.

Now the computer...hubby tried it this morning and it mysteriously worked just fine. Maybe that was our warning to make sure we backed things up...

Ummm, I'm guessing if your computer worked this morning that its power supply is beginning to go bad. This is not the end of the world IF you back things up and get it repaired before it causes your hard drive to crash. This is not a repair to do yourself, so get a computer person to replace it.

Surge protectors can save much heartache. I use one for my sewing machines even. Can't stand the thought of having to replace expensive (though old) machines just because of a power surge.

Thanks. I'll show this to him when he gets back home in a few minutes!

Before I bought the surge protector in Ohio, we had a close lightning strike and at the computer repair shop they showed me the burn marks on the modem thingy. They thought it was cool and apparently it wasn't a rare happening because they had one on display that had also been caused by lightning going through the line. I wasn't too happy about it, but had to admit it was kinda cool to see and know that somewhere up in that big sky, electricity came slamming down and got all personal with my computer and nothing else in the area. You gotta feel a little special with that, right? :tongue3:

Not good and bad luck - no, but I do believe that life is just stinking hard sometimes. And as others have said, it is how we react to, adjust with, and handle those things that gives strength to our faith and our testimony.

I've seen a lot of Christians inadvertently hold to the concept of charms, talismans, incantations, and other pagan practices, only they're doing them with the a cross necklace, the picture of Jesus in the narthex, speaking a Bible verse (especially out of context), printed prayers, and other quasi-Christian practice derived from false religions. This is akin to the concept of "luck" which is drawn from animism and spiritism.

Being a Christian and understanding sovereignty, I know that there is no such thing as luck. Amid the billions of descanting voices I tell you, God is in complete control and there is nothing left to chance or luck!
