Do you believe in the peccability or impeccability of Christ?

Just 2-cents from a layman with a long way to go in growing into maturity with God's word.

Jesus came to earth in a fleshly body that could be tempted, just as we are tempted today. (Peccability) Each of us, in Christ, has our own capability to resist those things which tempt us.

Does not the scriptures say that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond what our flesh can bear? Wouldn't the same thing apply to Jesus?

He set the example for us to follow in our lives. To resist temptation to our utmost and God, the Father, will make sure satan can't tempt us beyond what we can't endure. If Jesus could not be tempted, then there was no point in showing in the scriptures that He did resist temptation. There would be no example for him to set for us.

There are two purposes for the temptation of Jesus.

1) So He can sympathize with His elect as we look to Him and 2) it proves His Diety. Being tempted in all ways like us He never fell and could not, thus proving Himself to be the Son of God. Since has no power over God whatsoever.

Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

So truth fails, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor; therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; and His own righteousness, it sustained Him. For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

CONCLUSION: JESUS NEVER FAILS!!!

We have to remember that Jesus was both fully God and full man, as the quotes from Chafer said rightly, a unique man such as has never existed, nor will ever exist out side of Jesus Christ himself. The term "Hypo-static Union" is used to describe the uniqueness of who Jesus is, and Chafer very ably pulls out the "contradictions" which are not contradictions.

1) Jesus was both fully God and fully man (Hypo-static Union).
2) As such, he could be tempted outwardly (presentation) but never respond positively to the temptation because there was no sin nature in him to respond to the temptation.
3) He was a infalllable man, made such by the presence of the God nature which was not on equal footing with the human nature.
4) #3 has to be true because of the logic Eternal God Nature > Finite Man Nature always and forever.
5) Creatures left to themselves independent of God will ALWAYS fall.
6) Jesus human nature was always accompanied by his divine eternal nature, always fully man and fully God.

My conclusion based on the evidence is that Jesus was Impeccable and thus unable to sin, but fully temptable. The opposite argument assumes Jesus would have to sin in order to identify with our weakness, which is heresy.
