I believe a person can accept Jesus Christ as their savior on their death bed. Only Jesus Christ can save a person from eternal seperation from God the Father.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2Pet. 3:9

Once saved, always saved is actually kind of redundant. If I am not going to hell (saved), how can I then go to hell (loose my salvation. I cannot understand the concept that salvation means I am on my way to heaven (if I'm a good little boy). I am saved from hell, I am not saved from heaven. I am either saved from hell, right now, or I am not saved from it, yet. Salvation is either a present experience or it is a futher experience. Heaven is a future experience but salvation is a present experience. What is this salvation that people are talking about that doesn't end in heaven? What were they saved from, it certainly wasn't hell since they went there.

Yes, I really do believe "once saved, always saved". I think that really is a Baptist doctrine because there seem to be few other denominations that truly believe this. I was told by one Independent Baptist minister that the Free Will Baptists didn't believe this and that some Primitive Baptists didn't either. It's never been mentioned at the Primitive Church I attend.

The Pentecostal people always seemed to fear "losing" their salvation. If they didn't pray in tongue or dress a certain way or adhere to some other man-made rule, they feared that they would somehow lose favor with God. That was another aspect of that religion that just didn't hold water for me.

None of us can ever be good enough on our own. We will continue to sin - even after accepting Christ. We are mortals and God knows this. He knows what limited capacity we have on our own. Sure, it is going to help one's spiritual growth if we strive to do what God wants us to do. That includes being a witness to others and trying to live a moral life. However, we cannot SAVE ourselves by being GOOD and GODLY all the time. Salvation then becomes a works-based theology if you continually think that one day you're saved and the next day you're not. No one walks the straight and narrow every day. That is something that the Pentecostals and other groups like them cannot understand. To my way of thinking, God has made it much easier than they could possibly ever realize.

Most Baptist groups are Calvinist. Free-Will Baptists are Arminian. There are some Primitive Baptists that are universalists.

If you mean the "no hell" Primitive Baptists, I would agree with you. Of course, they are few and far between. In fact, I don't think I know of a single one.

As for the question, even though I've already posted, the Primitive Baptist church, at least the true PBs, believe in once saved, always saved. Of course, there is one major difference in how we believe this.

We believe this salvation was predestinated for a chosen people before God created the world. And, this salvation was fulfilled by Christ on the cross. Nothing can be done or said to add or take away from that chosen body. All who were saved, WILL be in heaven, and all those who weren't saved WILL be in hell. There is no other way about it. It is not a personal choice we make, but a divine and holy choice that God made.

Now you see why we don't believe in missionaries or winning souls. We don't believe they accomplish anything, since our salvation has already been determined.

I don't want to start a debate over our beliefs, I just wanted to point out what we believe about the once saved, always saved, and how that goes hand in hand with our views on missions and such.

I John 3:9 -- No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

This verse, which teaches the opposite of what you said, does seem to support the 'eternal security' position... but only if the proof is that one does not-- cannot-- sin.

I think it is unrealistic to believe that everyone is going to live and act just like Jesus once they are saved. Of course, our hope is that people will not fall back into a sinful lifestyle if that is what they were doing before. However, people sin every day. We sin with our thoughts if nothing else. However, God knows that we are mortals, so I don't assume that Christian and "saint" are synonymous.

Bro James i donot want to debate our beliefs either...But answer one thing for me, why did the lord & saver tell us to go out & tell others about the kingdom then, & also he tells us in his word to tell others about salvation ?

Its all in the holy bible...so why is it in there for if we are not to do this...cause it comands us to do this ?

Willow, my problem is not with telling people about the Lord. My problem is trying to "win" souls to salvation. My problem is with the modern mission system.

The bible also says, and I'm paraphrasing, thou shalt not teach every man his neighbor and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Also, if you are referring to the so-called "Great Commission," we believe that it was given to the Apostles and they finished that work. Because, Paul later says, I believe it was Paul, when refering to the gospel, that it has been preached to every creature which is under heaven. Now, that tells me that the work of preaching to every creature was carried out and finished by the Apostles.

Now, I do not want to hijack the thread, so I hope that answer will suffice as to what Primitive Baptists believe on the subject.

BTW, when I say we are against missions, I should clarify. We ARE NOT against an Elder going out and preaching where the Lord calls him to go; whether that be Texas, California, India, the Philippines, or wherever. We do object to people being ordained strictly for that purpose, and being subject to a mission board, and sent out where that board dictates.

An Elder is subject only to God, and God should be the only One to lead him anywhere.

As a former opponent of OSAS, I think I’m qualified to give a judgement from both sides of the coin, so to speak… I can tell you now, I was wrong in believing that I could help God in his quest to save me….

Tell me this, can you sin after that you’re once saved? According to 1rst John 3: 9 “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”

What is that verse saying? We know that if we say that we sin not, we are a liar, and the truth isn’t in us… But here, it’s saying that we cannot sin?????

The truth is brethren, the Holy Spirit that abides in us, is from God, and He cannot sin because he is part of God… God CANNOT sin!!! Say it again, God CANNOT sin….. Jesus was made sin, who knew no sin, so that we could become sons of God…. Jesus didn’t sin, but he bore OUR sins upon himself, so that we could stand guiltless before a Holy God that demands perfection… The perfect sacrifice, the acceptable sacrifice was made for me on Calvary’s mount….

Now I’m free, I’m free, thank God almighty I’ve been set free…. It’s all in the blood…. You ask how we, being sinful, can remain saved? Nothing but the blood of Jesus…. He is my redeemer, my perpetuator, and my advocate with God…

On that great day of judgement I fully expect someone to step forward and vouch that my sins have been washed away…. Thank you Jesus… I can never praise him enough for his great sacrifice, to an undeserving worm as I….

One thing Brother James Reed, when this gospel is preached through out the world, what comes next? I believe the Bible says that the end will come… Since the end hasn’t come yet, I take it that the gospel still needs to be preached…..

The harvest is ready, but the laborers are few…. You are saved by the word of God, and how shall it come except by a preacher? If so, we need preachers everywhere to preach to the unsaved, so that they too can believe, as it was predestinated to them before the foundation of the world…. Sure, even nature tells them that there is a God, but someone needs to tell them of the great sacrifice that this God made for them….

I just wanted to add a comment that basically shows us how to be safe (Just in case some people cannot decide whether once saved/always saved is Gods truth or not. Jesus tells us to abide in him. John 15:4-5 says "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches, He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit, for without me ye can do nothing"

So if we have a viewpoint as far as the once saved/always saved belief goes, then thats fine, but I know that many are undecided and it's for those that I post this. As long as you abide in Christ, you have nothing to worry about. Verse 6 speaks of those who do not abide in Him, and it offers no comfort. Also, the bible in general offers no comfort to those who want to know if they can carry on in their life of sin and for God to be ok with it. The key thing is that we just abide in Christ.

I believe that the gospel still needs to be preached, but the gospel means good news. You tell people the good news after God has placed in their hearts the need to hear it.

With this quote, we get into some sticky ground. We PB's don't believe that people are regenerated and brought into the inheritance by hearing the gospel preached. It is a totally inward process given by God and Him alone. It has absolutely nothing to do with what man is saying or doing.

Of course, this leads us to the next problem. We do not believe people can be saved here and now. I know a lot of people on here post when they were saved. I will tell everyone, I was saved before the world was even made. And if you are saved, that's when it was. The only thing that happens here is when we come to the realization that Christ did die for us. But, that doesn't get you saved. It's in your heart because you've already been saved. In fact, if you were saved, then there was never any danger of your going to hell.

Again, I will reiterate, we are not against a man preaching the gospel of Christ. What we are against is, basically, the reason behind these missions...to save people. Since we don't believe in this doctrine, we will not be sending any missionaries to teach the heathen nations how to get saved.

but i also believe that yo can lose your salvation when you backslide.
what if a bornagain christian commits murder. the way allot of people are saying in this discussion is that he wil go to heaven.
(if he repents he will go to heaven) but what if he does not repent do you think that God will close his eyes,i hope not.i believe God is righteous and just and he will send that person to hell.

Once saved, ALWAYS saved, which is another reason why I am no longer Roman Catholic. As The Council of Trent said, anyone who believes this is "anathema."

You're looking at it through a human perspective. The most grievous sin, in man's eyes, is murder. But, what man sees through his eyes is not what God sees through His. Would you say that a person who commits adultery is also in danger of losing his salvation? What makes murder any more sinful than adultery?

As I said, God does not look at things the same way we do. When His child errs, he can just get ready to be punished, but that punishment is not the eternal punishment that's awaiting the unsaved.

As far as the Bible is concerned, sin is sin. There is not one sin that is greater than another. We ARE sin! When we commit sin, we should repent, but if we don't, that will only hurt us here and now. It won't cause us to be plucked out of the hand of God. There is absolutely NOTHING in heaven or earth that can do that.
