Forget the recent commotion to stir up a new and uglier racial divide. Do you believe that America has made significant improvement in racial relations since the hard work of MLK?

On one hand you say "Forget the recent commotion to stir up a new and uglier racial divide.", then on the other you make race a part of every poll option.

Better in some areas. Worse in others and thus the putting to bed of Jim Crow only to give his cousins the keys to drive around freely.

Not much, maybe worse. The Civil War may have stopped slavery, but as a whole we did not repent on how we treat blacks. The civil rights act and busing forced whites to somehow blend with and eventually accept blacks. Whenever you try to force a person to love another through man's laws, it will backfire. It's a silent racism. As a people, whites moved away from the inner cities as America exploded in growth after WW2. Blacks moved in for jobs, whites moved away and created suburbs. Why didn't whites simply rebuild and expand the inner cities? They did not want to be around blacks. Why are there white churches and black churches? Because as a whole "Christian" whites do not want to be around blacks, racism further proved. Whites as a whole do not want black men to marry their daughters. For years churches even said it was in the bible not to. A racist lie from the pulpit. Arrest statistics for this country reveal we arrest more blacks at a staggering number compared to whites, racism proved again. It's true that many blacks do commit more crimes than whites. Why? Because they are poor. Why do many blacks try to cheat the welfare system? Because they have no future to excel in a system that is still in favor of whites in practice. We have put the black man into a corner with very few choices right after we freed him, then we stupidly wonder why blacks are more prone to crime, drugs, and fractured family's. As the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah we are the same, fullness of bread yet forsaking our poor. If Muslims do invade this country, they will have a big help from blacks because we have gave them no choice, garnered no loyalty from them, and in practice held them in another slavery. The men that wrote our constitution that many of you hold higher than the bible, sounded our death knoll when they said "all men are created equal" as they whipped their black human livestock. You think Garner and Ferguson are bad, just watch.

Sadly, you make some good points.

:applause: Yep. It's part of the "invisible" racism and racial prejudice that so many whites refuse to see. I remember hearing some of my SS students say to a black kid in class that he talks like a white guy as though white guys are the only ones who can speak properly. But in some regards, we've come to think of such comments as compliments. SMH.

Whites as a whole do not want black men to marry their daughters.

This statement is strangely still true in a lot of regards especially in the church. I was talking with some friends recently. And I forget how we got on the subject. But one of the people told a black friend in the group that his grandad loves him (the black friend) like a son and would feel that his daughter(his mother) was protected as long as the black guy was there if they went on mission trips out of the country or if they traveled anywhere. He knew that his daughter would be looked after as though he were there. But then he went on to say that his granddad would disapprove of them getting married though because he simply doesn't believe that it's right. Needless to say, the rest of us in the group are looking at him like he just grew three heads.

But that is how a lot of white people feel. They won't come out and say it, but it's there under the surface. Just crazy.

Considering the MLK dream was that we would be color blind, and judge people on their character and the Democratic party lives to divide and conquer no they are not better. Since the 1960s we have had a couple generations of Blacks told by the Democrats that Whites owed them. And whites for the most part have played along. A Black man was acquitted of two counts of murder because we wanted to make admends. Later we were told that when we elected a black president that we would prove once and for all that we were post racial. Of course that was not enough, especially since that president has played the race card every chance he got with the help of his friends in the media. Race relations are where they are because of Sharpton and Obama and Holder. They are the ones who did not listen to MLK words about judging people on their character because all they see is skin color and they are able to have power because of it.

I agree that race relations are where they are because of Sharpton & Obama----but I disagree that our problems are what they are because of black men!!

Only Vultures dine at the table of dead Jim Crow laws!!

I was being sarcastic blackbird.

Yes--I fully understand that-----my point is---its Jackson, Sharpton, Holder and company who are doing the dining at Jim Crow's table----being spoon fed the scraps of Jim's past from the media/press!!:saint::saint:

If the media would quit feeding the Vultures----the Vultures will hang around for a few days----and then take flight to other areas of the nation where the rotten flesh of Jim Crow can be smelled from their vantage point high in the sky!!!

Black people didn't just start responding to racism and racial prejudices with the arrival of Sharpton, Obama and Holder.

Another dynamic at play in race relations is what you've just displayed. Whites are becoming angrier and more angry because of the narrative coming from Fox News and conservative talk radioheads like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh who are guilty of the same type of keep 'em stirred up histrionics that angry whites like to blame Sharpton and Jackson.

The narrative on the political right has placed the proverbial chip on the shoulders of a lot of white people who are mad that they think they have tried to make amends and are post racial but Blacks just won't accept it. And so Rush and Sean stir the pot and the nasty racial talking points are hashed and rehashed and repeated. And the black folks refute the talking points and that just makes the angry white folks more insistent that they stand firmly on the talking points.

And people seem to get this whole skin color thing confused. MLK Jr didn't ever dream that people would be color-blind and white America and black America need to continue to recognize that skin color IS there and it has played a part in the experience of people. But skin color isn't at the core of who GOD wants us to be.

And what blackbird said earlier about prejudice being nailed to the Cross of Calvary should be primary in the lives of Christians. But this ugly thing called politics that has crept into the church and that colors so much of how people in the church respond to people who don't share the same color skin, has long ago dug racial prejudice and racism up from the grave and taped it to our persons with anger.

And I just don't know why white people seem to take such issue with the President speaking to his blackness. Previous Presidents and AGs and administration leaders have all indirectly done the same but no one ever commented because it was the status quo.

The man is black. He should be saying something.

Oh yes they did, and when the media stops inflating it, it will all go away. Nothing but glitter and unicorns!

I am just a person. The only race on this planet is the human race. With that said discrimination based on ethnicity has been greatly improved since MLK. I lived in the US prior to MLK and I've lived in the US after MLK. After is better.

However, much of that progress has been lost under BHO who has, in my opinion, deliberately and viciously divided people on the basis of ethnicity, social standing, and gender. BHO has managed to undo much of what MLK was able to accomplish. He has moved us back to the 1950s in the area of ethnicity, social standing, and gender relations. His presidency has been a social disaster.

And I believe this is the narrative that the political right has accepted as its mantra when addressing race relations in the United States. It's easy to place the blame on a black President because it removes us from being complicit.
