I personally do not.

I believe the biblical record indicates somewhere between 6,000 to 10,000 years since the dawn of creation.

I believe that what science has come up regarding millions and blillions of years is 100% speculation, and not one iota of it can be proven. Pure theory.

On of the things that really bothered me as a 9 and 10 year is I could not concieve how God had existed FOREVER already - even back before creation day.

So Yes there have been millions and million of years already - according to the eternal attribute of God. What we probably want to discuss is what happened during those billions (1,000,000,000s) and trillions (1,000,000,000,000s) of years. And what significance it has for our lives next week.

There are some things mentioned in Genesis that makes me wonder. The creation of the earth for one. God created the earth and in everything He ever creates it is always perfect except for the earth. In verse 1 He creates the earth and in verse 2 somehow it isn't perfect. It says;
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
This for some teachers has created a void of time between verse 1 and verse 2.
God spoke His creation into existance out of absolute nothing. You know and I know that God is perfect and everything He does is perfect. So why wasn't the earth perfect when He created it? It seems to me that the earth has been covered with water more than once since creation and to me this suggest that God has destroyed it before just like in Noah's flood. And we just aren't told much about it in Genesis. Something just seems amis in the first two verses of the Bible. Maybe you could explain why when God created the Earth He had to go back and touch it up because it was with out form.

There's a "Dr Schroeder" who has taken Einstein's, E=MC2 and applied it to the big bang theory, and the six days of creation, and he says, using Einstein equation and "time preception" according to the speed of light/universe expansion,

and by overlaying Einstein's equation over the creation days and fossil records, they match "perfectly", and the expansion size would also match the size of the universe we see today, 15 billion light years.

"Time" is "Relative" to speed, the faster you travel, the slower time passes, but to an observer, not moving, time would pass normal,

So our "preception of time" is "relative" to the position from which we are "calculating time".

Astronauts age a few seconds slower than us because of the speed they travel.

Schroeder is saying that our preception of time is "relative" to our position from which we view it, much like us viewing the astronauts circling the earth, but our clocks are ticking at different speeds.

I have no idea how long it's been since God created earth, but mankind has not been here for millions of years. If we have been, we should be further along in progress than we are. Considering how much technology has increased in the last century or so, we would have flying cars by now and be traveling through space like it was home if we were here for millions of years. Since everything was created and not evolved, it didn't take millions of years for life to evolve to what we are today.

Nah... I think you can be wrong about that and still make it to heaven, as long as you're not wrong about salvation.

I am a young earther. To me it all comes down to your image of God. If you believe in an almighty, all powerful God that can do anything, well then he could have created it all yesterday. He could have created the entire world including me as a 42 year old man with 42 years worth of memories. He could have created the truck I drove to work and the house I live in. He could have done it all yesterday. If we rely on science we can say that due to the empirical evidence it looks like the earth has been here for a long time. We can look at the tires on my truck and say they look like they have 30,000 miles on them. But that does not change the fact that God could have created them just the way they are today. The only thing we really have to go no is what God told us, and he told us he made it 6 to 10 thousand years ago. So I believe him.

Now I have no problem with someone who says that the scientific evidence makes it appear that the Grand Canyon is 3 million years old or whatever. I know there are scientists that believe the geological evidence is consistent with a 10,000 year old earth and there is difference of opinion on this issue. But it just does not matter to me. To me God could have made it yesterday and still made it look like it was a billion years old.

The question I ask is trees. God created the earth with trees on it, trees that gave fruit. Now how old were these trees? How long does it take a tree to give fruit? If Adam and Eve, on day one in the garden, had cut down a tree, would that tree have had rings in it? I say it would. Even though the earth was not as old as those rings would have seemed to indicate.

You are correct MB that there is some ambiguity in Genesis. It centers on Genesis 1:2

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The word “was” here is the issue. Instead of saying the earth “was” without form, what if the Bible said the earth “became” without form. The Hebrew word here is היהor hayah. This is Strong’s Hebrew word 1961. The word occurs 75 times in scripture and it can be translated became or to become.

Old earth theories and so called gap theories are consistent with scripture. While I do not believe these it is possible to believe these ideas and still hold an inerrant view of scripture. The most important part of the creation story and the part that we must hold up as literal is the fall. There has to be a literal Adam and Eve, a literal father and mother of the human race who literally sinned and fell from grace. Otherwise our salvation would never have been necessary and Jesus need never have come. Now that is important.

Me4Him, I think you are dead on correct, but at the same time I think that explanation goes beyond the scientific understanding most of us have. Time itself is part of God’s creation and he can break those laws anytime (pun intended) he pleases.

There are all kinds of scientific evidences for a young earth from the saline content of the oceans to the fossil fuels. Most of the science has to include a global catastrophe like a global flood to account for things like the Grand Canyon and sedimentary rock.

But as I tried to explain above I don’t think any of that matters. I believe that is exactly what Paul is talking about in I Tim 6:20-21:

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

I don’t care if dinosaurs lived alongside men. I don’t care if you believe in a global flood. What I care about is do you know what comes after this life? Do you know where you will spend eternity? Do you know what Jesus did for you?

Somebody once said, “Let’s keep the main thing the main thing.”

Thats the 2 earth theory right? Between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 where God made the perfect world and it was perfect and then Satan fell destroyed it and God remade the earth from chaos. Its a perfectly Hellinized view of a Jewish creation story. Remember the Greeks believed the Earth was chaos under the governance of the Titans and Zeus brought order and established the new order of gods.

None "in it?" That doesn't even limit the scope to the present age. When Jesus referred to the glory he and the father shared before the world (John 17:5), does that go back less than a million years? It's in it.

Shouldn't the question in the OP be: Do you believe that the universe is millions and millions of years old?

If that's the question, my answer is no.

For one thing, there is now way to measure anything beyond several thousand years. They can't accurately measure something and say it's millions or billions of years old, which is what they do. The measuring techniques they use to determine age are based on presuppositions about the age of the earth/universe.
