I don’t know about availability. Digital formats are certainly more convenient. Perhaps it does present itself as a better option for the digital age.

I know for a fact that Crossways has decided that the ESV will be free digitally. I think that's fantastic!

The Scriptures are still Scripture whether they are on a screen, on an ipad or on paper. I use an ipad because I can have multiple translations up. I can also put notes about passages which will sync with all my devices.

I am seeing a sad trend in that many no longer bring their Bibles to church but rely on phones and iPad's. The problem with this is that many will be texting, checking FB, watching movies, and the like while listening to a sermon. Bob Jones University made a policy in recent years against electronic Bibles in chapel's which is a very good idea. The second trend are churches that display all the Bibles verses on the screen and people no longer need to carry their Bibles.

I know that some that like these trends are going to militantly defend themselves and say I am "criticizing" them or something, and which I am indeed! I do so with a valid reason and that is that people need to learn how to read the Bible for all its worth, and they need to know how to find books of the Bible without a computer as I once had to memorize Bible books. Also checking FB and the like during a sermon is not a good idea.

As for me I follow leaders whom set an example. John MacArthur brings his Bible to church and does not use a electronic device to preach. I have yet to see a YouTube video of Ray Comfort open air preaching with a electronic device.

Legalism anyone?

What "facts"? From the OP:

There you go unrighteously judging. It's what he 's observed so how ae YOU going to tell him his observation wasn't factual?

Watching movies?? Really? "Many"? I've never seen that and others have said the same.
What "trend"? Did he cite a recent survey? He has no "facts", only accusations, which he frequently posts in his OP's.

Again that's your unrighteous judgment. He saw the trend so how are you gonna tell him what he saw? What would he have to cite a survey for? He OBSERVED it. It doesn't matter what you and others have seen if he saw something else that gave him reason to see it as a developing trend.

There is nothing righteous about pointing out so called faults of others with no proof.

You mean proof for you. He got his proof when he observed it.

It's not wrong to judge, especially when you can see the critical spirit right here in black and white. He has no proof there's a "trend" in people not taking their Bibles to church, only his warped opinion.

Of course, it's only right to judge when YOU do it.

And Zaac, you are one of the most judgmental people on this board, so maybe you should be silent.

Taking advice from someone who is being judgmental while telling someone else that they can't be judgmental is not advised.

Sorry, I meant that paper bibles are more available than used. But you are right, that is fantastic.

I bring my Bible and my Tecarta Bible equipped Android Phone. I leave the Bible opened to the main text and use the phone for the back and forths.

I usually bring my paperback Bible to church, but sometimes I forget it. I can be a pretty forgetful person, so that happens quite a lot.

My church has some Bibles lying around under seats that I can use in that case, though.

I often bring my ipod to church with me, but I try to avoid using it during sermons. It just looks potentially disrespectful, even if all I'm doing is using the Bible app.
But when in Bible study, I have been using my iPod lately. Because it's a small group of people and I can confirm to the others that I'm just using the Bible app and not browsing the internet.

That said, I don't consider it wrong when others do it. If they are watching movies or something, then it is wrong. If they are merely using the Bible, it's up to the individual conscience IMO.

You are correct. Some people have their belts buckled too tightly.

Awesome! I own a paperback ESV, but wasn't able to download the ESV to my ipod when I looked a couple months ago.
I like the ESV, but I've got a problem with some of its preferred translations. One of the rules of the ESV translators seems to have been that, if the NASB showed preference to one of two renderings, they would show preference to the other. That's obviously an oversimplification, but if you look at both side by side, you'll see a lot of that, whether it be coincidence or not.

Our pastor uses the ESV, and as a result a lot of our Bible study teachers use the ESV, but I still prefer the NASB. Just a personal preference, not a condemnation or critique of the ESV.

I've got an NASB app on my phone, but I also have access through it to other versions, and reading the ESV sometimes does make it more clear, as it leans toward conversational "high English" as opposed to the academic rendering of the NASB.

I've demonstrated in a few threads in the past that the NASBU actually "speaks" in more natural English than does the ESV some of the time.

Is this now a "translations" conversation?

After you have been here for a while, you discover that there are only two real discussions here- BV's and C/A. Everything eventually boils down to those two issues.:tongue3:
