Actually, I was an only child and my father taught me all kinds of "guy" stuff, fishing, guns, yard work, car care. I think he would have preferred a boy, but I did the best I could. :)

So you totally relate to Palin. She is like your twin...

I disagree. Most cities have very stringent laws banning handguns. The criminals run roughshot over the law abiders because of years & years of intimidation by the ACLU that says you can't lock up violent criminals if they belong to a minority group. That and taking guns away from the law abiders.

You said a lot here so let's take them one at a time. DOJ shows that per capita, 4.6% of black males are in prison compared to 1.7% Hispanic and .7% whites. ACLU isn't doing a good job if they are keeping violent blacks out of prison.

At midyear 2007 there were 4,618 black male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 black males in the United States, compared to 1,747 Hispanic male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 Hispanic males and 773 white male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 white males.

The problem is most of the crimes are committed by minors. As I stated, most gang bangers don't plan to live to see their 19th birthday. These are children as young as 9 and 13 running the streets with guns. The threat of jail is like offering to put them in the White House. It doesn't scare them, it makes them want to earn their badge.

No one wants to take away law abiding citizens right to own a gun. There just needs to be a solution to keep these young kids from getting the guns. Waiting for them to use the gun or get caught with it isn't effective and until they use it they only get their hands slapped. Once they use it we can lock them up but innocent people are having to be victimized to create the crime.

I still believe we need to figure out a way to keep the guns out of their hands and the only solution I see is going after the people selling them the guns. I know from a previous thread you disagree with this but do you have viable a solution to offer.

One of the bummers about gun talk is we have no statistic to show how many times a gun prevented someone from being horribly victimized.

I can appreciate a statistic like this in the rural areas but in the cities where police respond quickly it would only look like the wild west if we give everyone a gun. People who would normally stay out of situations would begin getting involved and making matters even worse.

But I'm willing to bet the crime rate in D.C. goes way down when they get the handgun ban thing figured out.

I doubt it, the ban hasn't taken one gun off the street because the people with the guns are the criminals. Giving the non-criminals legal guns will only cause more innocent people to get caught in the crossfire. I hope I'm wrong but that's how I see it.

Evidence proves you wrong. The only places where gun crimes are rampant are where there are prohibitive firearm laws.

It's also where the bulk of the people and the gangs are... I don't see your point.

I'm not gonna waste bandwidth trying to pound it into you.

I was just watching the show Cops. They chased down and arrested a young boy with a tech 9 machine gun shoved down his pants and a pocket for of crack cocaine. You can pound all you want but giving every citizen a gun won't make for a pretty picture when we have a 38 and they have a tech 9 machine gun.

I don't know this but I can say beauty is only skin deep and you have shown a inner beauty that has far outshines what I've seen from Palin.

Funny, it's not an issue, out here. And I'm glad Montana doesn't base their gun laws on "COPS" episodes.

I own several guns, I normally carry one on my person, I used to have a job where I even carried at work. I FIRMLY believe "It's better to have a gun and not need it, than it is to not have a gun and need it" I will continue to have a gun, in my house and on my person until it is completely illegal. I am also a NRA member.

And I respect your right to have your gun as long as it's legal, registered ad used only for sport or defending yours. That is a right given in the constitution and I don't think anyone wants to touch it.

I keep forgetting about my .22, I think it's a Winchester, I don't shoot it much, it's one that fires the .22 WSM rounds....I've used it mostly as a varmit rifle at our cabin. That's where it stays.

I am always legal as possible. The only thing that might be questionable is on my way to work I drive down a street that is next to a street that has a school on it, I'm not sure if it is over a 1000 feet or not, if I am that close I guess I'm a felon!

Oh, and my guns are not registered. It is not required by law.

BD.

Why I said legal... I know some states don't require registration.

Here you have to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon but can carry a gun on your hip (not concealed).

I wonder how many have read the stats on how many have been killed or wounded by their own guns?

All the deaths by handguns in Canada have been by illegal or stolen handguns. I would like to know how they manage to get them over the border.

Cheers,

Jim

By the way, my one daughter does hunt, so I am not an absolute abolitionist. I just don't like guns.

I have, and when you consider the percentages it is not a big number at all. You are much more likely to be injured or killed in your own car than by your own gun. The percent of malpractice related deaths more than triple that of gun accidents.

See Gun Control doesn't work.

Could this be because of the number of people who owns cars vs guns?
