"How come you don't write?"
"
I do, my work even get's published a couple of times a year. All of it is in Dutch however.
In case you haven't noticed, I do all sorts of peculiar things with what used to be the English language, making me a less than perfect candidate for the American market.
To make matters worse, those aspects of churchhistory I excell at are usually the ones few want to here about.
My last article was about the powerstruggle between the Spanish Inquisition and the secular Spanish judiciary about who would be allowed to put witches on trial. The Inquisition claimed they had the monopoly on witchhunting, the secular authorities wanted to break that monopoly. The reason the Inquisition desperately clung to that privilege was to prevent witchhunts from taking place alltogether. They were certain that there was no witchcult in Spain and that letting the local authorities start investigations without inquisition oversight would lead to the death of many innocents.
They were right. The only time people were executed in Spain on witchcraft charges was when the Spanish Inquisition wasn't allowed to 'look over the shoulder' of the secular prosecutors, pointing out obvious facts that discredited the complete case under review.
Few Christian magazine editors are interested in articles about the Spanish Inquisition and those that are interested are only rarely interested in articles that have them act noble.
So my last article will only be published in a small conservative Roman Catholic magazine in Belgium.
