Does anyone shop at ALDI?

Rarely as it is the other side of our town. Molst of ALDI meat here is UK sourced. Much cheaper than the main stores and theri steak if just as good, or better. Although walking Aldi is our nearest store the nearest by car is ASDA, owned by Walmart. I don't often go there as apart from a pound deposit in the trolley, you have to pay a pound deposit for the parking, although you get that back when you show your receipt to customer services, it is a bit of a nuisance. LIDL is the other side of town and when you have finished shopping you have to scan your receipt and enter your car registration number or you get a big fine if you have used their car park.
Our ALDI does not have a fresh bread bakery but LIDL does, never bought any there but it smells great. But I always make my own bread in my Panasonic breadmaker. I use ALDI wholewheat flour as it is not much more than half the price of the supermarket own brands and a third of the price or less of the brands, and I prefer it.
Wow, I take it you're located in a pretty urbanized area, or is all parking like that over there?

We get our main weekly grocery shop from Tescos as it's more reliable to have what we want but both Aldi and Lidl are worth popping into other times to see what they have and, if they have something we want, we generally get it and tick it off our weekly Tesco shop because it's cheaper and in some cases better.

Most stores round here do charge to use their parking and then redeem that charge if you shop with them to stop the general public abusing their car parks.

[ETA: David and I are both in South East England which is heavily urbanized]

Aldi's is okay. We have a brand new one. My friends use Aldi's a lot. I have two Aldi's near me but I am mostly a Kroger shopper for about the last thirty years. I have never been to a Trader Joes and I think that the nearest one is back in Indianapolis somewhere (I live in the burbs). I like Walmart--I live close to four of them. I also am near two Meijer Stores (out of Michigan). Meijer's has fantastic produce and are good on everything else. Also, I buy some food at Sam's Club but that is just now and then because of the large quantities.

I read that Americans don't like ALDI as they charge a quarter deposit for the shopping trolley (Cart to you) The seemed to start in poorer areas and are now moving into more upmarket areas.
My wife shops at Aldi's at times, and I have been with her a couple of times. There are two Aldi's in our area, but not in the town where we most frequently shop, so it is only when we are in those other towns for some other reason that we would go to Aldi's. We have to travel about 20 miles to get to any actual grocery store, but the Aldi's stores are 40-45 miles away. I've not seen a problem with anything we purchased there, and the deposit for the cart is not a deal breaker. You get it back when you return the cart, and I suppose if someone was of a mind to keep the cart a quarter isn't a bad price. :Biggrin

I recall that eggs by the dozen were the cheapest I have seen them at any store (at least at the times I went).

My daughter began doing much of the family's shopping at Aldi when they lived in Illinois, though for produce she would go to Kroger's. They're in SNJ farm country now, with an Aldi 6 miles north and a brand new (as of last fall) Lidl 10 miles south, and they hit both with an occasional stop at a more conventional supermarket for certain products. (Both Aldi and Lidl seem less than profuse with non-German ethnic foods.)

About the quarter at Aldi... I always try to bless someone else with my cart before returning it for the quarter. It has resulted in some nice conversations with strangers. I am praying it may lead to a Gospel conversation. In our insular society blessing someone with $0.25 is one way to talk with a neighbor. It may seem like a trivial thing but that does not mean trivial is bad.
