Does it make a difference to you that Palin is Pentecostal?

I've had two people this week tell me that they couldn't vote for McCain, not because of anything political, but because they couldn't support a "heretic" in that Sarah Palin is Pentecostal. Both of these individuals belong to the same IFB church, so I am wondering if that's been preached from the pulpit.

Are there others here who feel the same? Does this really matter?

And just to set the record straight, I personally do not believe Pentecostals are heretics.

McCain doesn't BELONG to a Baptist church. He ATTENDS a Baptist church which he hasn't joined in 20 years of attending there.

Not knowing anything about what they preach, I don't won't that to stand in her way. I suppose she believes in the same GOD that we do and it's getting harder to find people of particular jobs that even believe.

Is she Pentecostal?

Any proof?

Why would it matter if she was?

Actually I'm not saying that she is or isn't penacostal. But the church we recently moved our membership to There is a family that is missionaries that's SB missionaries that go to the same church with Sarah and they speak VERY highly of her and her family.
From what I hear there aren't many churches in the area. That is why our missionary family goes to this church. I did just get an E mail of her speaking at her church and from what I saw and heard it sounds like she started going there or at least being lead by it's pastor from when she was a child or at least much younger. If Anyone's interested I'll see if I can post it on here.

I have close relations that are IFB, and they are supportive of Palin.

Course some there are voting for Chuck Baldwin..... and in the Primaries were for Huckabee.

If McCain wins, many are hoping he will clean the clock of the 'good ole' boys' mentality which has run the WhiteHouse leadership .....for some true conservative, smaller government, family oriented and supportive of family values, and less influence by big bankers and big business in appointed offices and agencies. I too am hopeful that if McCain wins he will have the intestinal fortitude to break with the traditions of both parties in giving plum appointments to those who are already part of the establishment, and surround the Presidency with qualified scholars, people of business experience or other experience as necessary to fill vacancies without catering to those already in Washington.

McCain grew up Episcopalian and attended an Episcopalian high school. It is unknown if he was baptised as an infant, child, adult or even at all since he generally does not speak much about his faith. Since he grew up Episcopalian, it is likely he was baptised as an infant but far from a certainty. But he has been attending a Baptist church for the last 15 years with his wife and kids and called himself a Baptist and not Episcopalian last year but has referred to himself as an Episcopalian in the past. His wife and kids were baptised in North Phoenix Baptist Church but he said he did not feel he needed to be baptised in this baptist church for his spiritual needs.

Fox News: McCain Identifies Himself as a Baptist

Campaigning in this conservative, predominantly Baptist state, McCain called himself a Baptist when speaking to reporters Sunday and noted that he and his family have been members of the North Phoenix Baptist Church in his home state of Arizona for more than 15 years.

"It's well known because I'm an active member of the church," the Arizona senator said.

While McCain has long talked about his family's and his own attendance at the Arizona church, he appears to have consistently referred to himself as Episcopalian in media reports.

In a June interview with McClatchy Newspapers, the senator said his wife and two of their children have been baptized in the Arizona Baptist church, but he had not. "I didn't find it necessary to do so for my spiritual needs," he said.

He told McClatchy he found the Baptist church more fulfilling than the Episcopalian church, but still referred to himself as an Episcopalian.

The Associated Press asked McCain on Saturday how his Episcopal faith plays a role in his campaign and life. McCain grew up Episcopalian and attended an Episcopal high school in Alexandria, Va.

"It plays a role in my life. By the way, I'm not Episcopalian. I'm Baptist," McCain said. "Do I advertise my faith? Do I talk about it all the time? No.
...

Palin grew up Catholic, was baptised as an infant and converted to Assemblies of God which is Pentecostal and was rebaptised as a teenager. Six years ago she left the AoG to attend various non-denomination evangelical churches and now does not consider herself pentecostal. She currently attends Wasilla Bible Church.

Fox News: Palin's Pentecostal Church Membership Questioned
...
Palin was baptized Roman Catholic as a newborn. She was then baptized in a Pentecostal Assemblies of God church as a teen and attended that church until six years ago, when she and her family adopted a different home church, an independent evangelical church.

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, has said Palin attends different churches and does not consider herself Pentecostal.

since when is pentecostal= heritic?
It has nothing to do with which denomination a candate is, unles of course they are part of a church that preaches anti america, anti white or other races then their own. That would be a heritic.

So instead they'll vote for a man who thinks killing babies is OK and that all roads lead to heaven? How screwed up.

In other words they can't vote for anyone. This is secondary separation carried way, way too far as it usually is.

So why do folks keep accusing Obama of being Muslim as if to say religion does matter?

It's far more likely that Obama is neither Christian nor muslim.

Most socialists are athiests.

A person's beliefs matters in ALL things including being President.

Obama is not a Muslim based upon his profession of faith in Christ that I've heard. He is a strong socialist and his ideas are not good for the country. There's no substance in what he says but a lot of sweet sounding words to those who want "change" whatever it might mean to each one of them. He is a political version of preaching to itching ears! I think he's the worst candidate we've seen in many generations and him combined with a liberal Congress would take us farther and faster in the wrong direction.

Although Obama is - according to his profession - a Christian, he doesn't practice or apply it in all that he does. That's a fault we all have. We proudly but falsely claim that Christianity doesn't apply to the secular life including the business of government. It better apply if we have any hope of those endeavors being founded in truth. In our zeal to be inclusive and diverse we are encouraging all religions other than Christianity and that is not what we as Christians should do.

I thought this thread was about Sarah Palin.

How did it get off topic to be about Obama?

Actually it began in Post #2 with this one:

McCain doesn't BELONG to a Baptist church. He ATTENDS a Baptist church which he hasn't joined in 20 years of attending there.
BaptistBeliever

and changed course again in #16:

So why do folks keep accusing Obama of being Muslim as if to say religion does matter?

Does that answer your question?
