okay did you not read the verse that I gave. (1 Cor. 15:50)flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. so we see that physical things can't inherit the kingdom of God.

    Dustin,

Your contentions have been refuted. Your argument doesn’t stand the test of scripture or logic. Revelations refers to God’s harps; that was already proven. So these “spiritual harps” (as you contend) are only good in that fake, but real land you call Heaven. These “fake harps” were used to glorify God, but we can’t use them because they weren’t “real harps”?!! You then decided without a cross reference that we should toss out the Psalms. I assume you think they are just novelty or history, but not scripture that’s relevant for today. I would hope that you would reconsider your position due to the evidence at hand, but that seems to be too much to ask. May God bless you in your studies and I pray that we can be a blessing to you and you to us. Good luck my friend. By the way Pastor Larry did a great job of pointing out your errors; you might want to take another look.

so psalms give unmistakeable and irrefutable evidence that instruments are acceptable in worship to God. well what about animal sacrifices?

    Psalms 20:3, 51:19, 66:15, 118:27

these tell us that burned offerings are acceptable to God, so based on your logic, the book of Psalms "gives unmistakeable and irrefutable evidence that animal sacrifices are acceptable in worship to God."

Yes, actually I did read that verse. However, that does not support your opinion at all that heaven is not a physical place. You are grasping at thin air for justification because you know that Revelation clearly shows harps as a part of the worship. Therefore, you have to argue around that or else your entire premise falls apart.

Back to the heaven issue for a moment, if heaven is not a physical place, then in Acts 7 at the stoning of Stephen how did he look up in the heavens and see Jesus standing at the right hand of God?

    GWIT,

You're "10 points" were pretty well annihilated early on. You're trying to insist that Scripture's silence on an issue amounts to a prohibition. Good luck with that one. It fails the tests of good logic and good exegesis.

So I'll play your game: singing in harmony during worship is sinful. Why? Because--show me anywhere in the Bible (NT, since you don't like the OT very much) that it is allowed. Well, of course that's silly. But that's been your logic so far.

If "every good and perfect gift comes from above," then why would God give us gifts that edify the body, only to prohibit us from using them?

And another question: You discount the Psalms' numerous references to instruments...ostensibly, because it doesn't fit your CoC theology. You remind us that "we're not under the law" hence the OT isn't relevant (ignoring the distinction of OT and Law/Prophets/Writings). And then what do you do? You use a Leviticus example of improper worship.

Which one is it? Can the OT be used to guide us in worship or not? You can't have it both ways.

I find it humorous when folks have to tie their brains into Gordian knots just to make their theology fit in the box they have. I don't care if you play the kazoo, hurdy-gurdy, or sackbut (untuned at that, huh Curtis?). But I'll probably respond when you tell me that the way I worship (that God has given me a peace about, and a joy through its expression) is sinful. And if you must do that, at least employ consistent logic and exegesis.

Continuing to play the pitch pipe skillfully,

    RBell

Worship is not the singing. Worship is humbling your heart (and body, if necessary) before God because of Who He is. Just to thank and acknowledge Him.

Okay, the Psalms are sung with instruments, but that's in the OT, which C of C contends doesn't apply to NT Christians.

But Paul's instructions to sing the Psalms are in the New Testament--Ephesians and Colossians.--and written to NT believers. Am I missing something here?

How do you get there? If you drive your car to a place of worship you are adding to the scriptures. God never told you you could drive a car to get there. Driving a car to a worhsip service is not of God so it is of sin.

The pitch pipe is also of sin for the reasons you posted.

Let's all drop our bias and base our belief on what God's word says, not on what it doesn't say.

10 reasons why English is wrong in worship

    1) There is no command in the New Testament for Christians to speak English in the worship of the church.

    2) There is no example in the New Testament of a church, apostle, teacher, or any Christian ever speaking English in worship.

    3) It is not of faith, therefore it is sin (Romans 14:23).

    4) It is going beyond that which is written (1 Corinthians 4:6).

    5) It violates the command to speak five understandable words rather than 10,000 in a tongue (1 Cor. 14:19).

    6) Speaking is commanded; speaking in English is an "addition" to this command, and therefore it is wrong (Rev. 22:18).

    7) The use of English in worship to God is a failure to "abide in the doctrine of Christ" (2 John 9).

    8) Those who use English in worship "reject" the authority of Christ (Matthew 28:19; Luke 6:46).

    9) It cannot be done "in the name" (or by the authority) of Jesus (1 Corinthians 4:6; Colossians 3:17).

    10) From the above evidences, the use of the English language in worship is obviously not from Heaven, so it must be from men (Matthew 21:25).

From the above Scriptures, we can now "clearly" answer this question, "Can Christians use English in worship and still be pleasing to God?"

    God's Word is TRUTH said:

we don't use running water, power, and lights to worship God, But we do Sing to worship God.

That only means that you are selective about the parts of the New Testament that you choose to obey.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31)

Everything we do is to glorify God. Therefore, everything we do is an act of worship. "Whatever you do" certainly includes turning on the lights and running water, doesn't it?

    God's Word is TRUTH said:

we are no longer under the old testament we learn this in several places in the new testament, (Gal. 3:24-24)

How ironic that you should appeal to Paul's letter to the Galatians. This very letter is strongly argued using numerous passages from the Old Testament for support. Your argument is ultimately self-defeating.

Just to add to the discussion. All of the larger C of C that I have visited have had terrific sound systems that amplify the voices of the singers. How is one mechanical device not of God and the other is? They both are there to enhance the worship experience. There is no record of the early church using microphones in worship.

By the way, the people who claim the Bible forbids the use of "mechanical instruments" in worship are usually the first ones to claim that the Bible also forbids the singing of man-made hymns.

So we're commanded only to sing psalms. This of course includes the psalms that command that God be praised with instruments, only we're not allowed to praise God with instruments.

No, not if your commandment was to get bread. If your commandment was to get "only bread" then it was broken.

What about them? The NT declares they are over because they are part of the Law. It does not declare that about instruments in worship. Is this really the best you have to offer?

God never said to translate his word into English either... so if you carry an English Bible to church on Sunday, you are sinning.

I believe the N.T. Christians used chants as their singing.

What type of songs do you sing in your church without instruments?

    Do you use chants?

How old must the songs be to qualify as worship?
