Door knocking can be difficult in some areas, especially where there is a lot of shiftwork. In one rural area, the farmers were in the fields and we were left to visit and have tea with the wives. I donned a pair of coveralls and went out to the fields to say "hello" to the men ploughing the fields. I am not sure that visitation is for "preaching the gospel" as much as familiarizing one's self with the people where they are.

Preachers are expected to make house calls. The most effective visitation is done by the people, two by two. I also read the obituaries daily and made notes on dates. I then made a pastoral visitation about three weeks after the burial; the most needy time, when friends have usually abandoned the mourners because they don't know what to say.

Visitation is more than just knocking on doors in a regimental fashion, in my opinion.

    Cheers,

    Jim

We had the joy of going door to door again last night. I have come to trully enjoy this ministry, even for its lack of evident, quick, and direct fruit. It is a time of true fellowship for the men who attend this ministry during the week. amen and amen.

Amen, Brother Bro. Williams -- Preach it! Pray it! Do it!

My calling since 1966 is to minister to God's other Ministers.
My calling since 1984 is to minister to God's
other Ministers on-line, on Bulletin Boards (bbs).

Stay true to where God called you.

A short note on calling to ministry:
I keep hearing from women: "I've got three
kids and spend all my time raising them --
I don't got no ministry." Hey! they missed
the whole point. God has called them to
MINISTER TO THREE KIDS -- it was the first
    ministry on earth: the Family.
The Church didn't drop by until some
    4,000 years later.

Stay true to where God called you.
(it can well be right where you are now)

And those of us who have been blessed by your ministry say thanks for staying true...

Don't forget the tons of friends those three kids bring home too! Been there. Talk about a ripple effect . . . I didn't quite realize it until the kids left home and their friends kept coming over or were waiting for me after school or would come by the media center on Sunday to talk. It's a huge ministry.

Hadn't thought about it yet, seeing my boys are young, but that is a good ministry.

I know from the small church that we serve in that there are many who are not good parents. Just stating the facts. What a great ministry to be there for those kids who need to Biblical support and push. Thanks for the post, I will remember this.
