Dr. Jerry Falwell

It is a sad thing for the "christian right wing" that thier leader is now passed...

But, we as christians still has our leader and HE lives forever more and sits on the right hand of the FATHER and it is in HIS name that we pray for the Falwell family, friends and this nation....

 

I thank God for him and his ministry. I pray for his family, his church and school.

His faith has now turned to sight. He's experiencing what we can't even imagine. How blessed he is!

 

A couple of my friends know the family.

They told me of Dr. Falwell's desire, when his time came, to have God take him quickly. He was too much of a "doer" to be incapacitated.

Looks like God answered his prayer.

Another great soldier for our Lord has been called home. He fought the good fight, and he will leave behind a tremendous legacy.

Many members of my church--on both sides of the pulpit--were positively and significantly influenced by Dr. Falwell and his vision.

My prayers go out to his family and the people at Thomas Road BC and Liberty University.

He will be missed.

 

I am sure he's enjoying "kicking up gold dust," as Adrian Rogers used to say!

I am thankful for his work. I just started online classes through Liberty, something I would have never been able to do without his leadership.

May God bless the work Jerry Falwell left behind, and may God bless his family as they grieve.

 

Well, I don't know how to feel about this...he was at times ***so pushy*** that even watching him was difficult. Yet, he also did things like not only speaking out against abortion but starting a home for unwed mothers and took care of them. So it is a mixed bag to say the least.

regardless of what WE think JF's motivations for ministries were, what his shortcomings were etc... The man was never ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
No matter what the format of a discussion or what platform or podium he was speaking from he never waivered on the essential message of salvation, Jesus etc...
This last presidential election I got more involved than previously on the grassroots leve. I went to my first and probably last christian coalition meeting when I lived in OH.
Pastor Fallwell spoke to this group of about 70 people.
It was a hodge-podge, ecumenical group of ministerial type folk.
Preachers, rabbi, priests get the picture?
I watched to see if Fallwell would be generic when addressing this ecumencial group. After all he wasn't there to preach he was there to stir up the vote.
Yet I will never forget how plain spoken he was about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He spoke of Christ being the only way etc... He was very "unashamed" of the Gospel that day. He did not pull back on the trigger to make the little melting pot of religious folk there feel comfortable.
He also told the pastors that were there to keep preaching the word and see people become "new" by the power of the Gospel. He said "preaching of the Gospel would ultimately bring about true change not politics.
Did ole JF like to hawk his books and his college etc... Sure I don't know his heart. I do know this though. He wasn't ashamed of his Savior. I watched him stand up for Him to many times on tv etc...
I'll take a Jerry Fallwell speaking on Larry King 100 times over a Joel Olsteen or a Rick Warren or even Billy Graham for that matter.
Even if i disagree with a man i will respect a man whose not afraid to have convictions and stand upon them.
Except for a few today in evangelicalism those who have a ministry large enough to get the ear of the nation are absolutely bent on being vague, vanilla etc.. I call it gutless. Falwell may have had his issues but he did have the guts to stand up for morality and for the Gospel. He wasn't my hero or anything not even close but he was a good man it seems who was not ashamed of Christ.

 

Tucker Carlson is giving a very honest & fair breakdown of Falwell's career.

Like I said, there is zero doubt in my mind he is in the arms of his savior, and that is always reason for praise.

 

Good post csl. Mr. Falwell certainly wasn't gutless. I didn't always agree with him but he wasn't ashamed of the gospel.

R.I.P. Mr. Falwell. Meet ya later.

 

He will be missed by many and was faithful to the Lord until the end of this life.

Apparently we need to be praying for more than Jerry Falwell's family and church right now.

Perhaps that is why they are the "underground". No Christian Democrat would speak such evil.

 

Falwell never faltered. He made a difference. His sermon last Sunday, on TV, for Mother's Day, was titled "Greater Love than a mother," and it was good.

I met Bro. Falwell several times, and found him to be a very warm, personable man. I attended the same Bible college that he did, BBC, Springfield, MO. {Many years later, of course. He was there about the time that I was born.} Even though he had his own college, he still was on the BBC campus many times for various functions, speaking in chapel, Graduation/Fellowship week, etc.

The last time I saw him was about 7 or 8 years ago, at BBC. My daughter has a Bible that she has been collecting signatures of Pastors, Missionaries, etc in for several years. We saw him in one of the hallways, and she asked him to sign her Bible, which of course he did. He then looked at me with a question on his face, and I thought, "Why not." I don't usually go in for that, but I did that time.

He will be missed very much.
