    MP,

You act so childish. You cannot prove by Scripture that God allows alcohol in the life of a believer, so you make fun of the Word of God and attack the messenger.

We are to preach the full counsel of God... that includes preaching against alcohol.

I have already shown from the Bible, as has my wife, as has The Scribe. Research our posts.

Oh, come on! It says 'wine'...which is, guess what...alcoholic. Your attempt to twist the translation is seriously flawed and appears to be motivated by your own prejudice - a classic case of eisegesis if ever I've seen one. When I order a crate of wine from my vintners, I don't specify "Oh and by the way, it must contain alcohol." No of course not. Why? Because wine is alcoholic. It is now, and it was when the Scripture was written, right back to when Noah got drunk on (according to you, non-alcoholic) wine:laugh:

All it shows to me is a display of arrogance that says you know better than your fellow-Christians. It really does no credit to you or your case; when you're in a deep hole, stop digging.

If you truly studied your Bible as all are commanded to do, Matt Black, you would know God does command abstinence from alcohol.

You would also know that wine today is alcoholic, but in Bible times it was not always alcoholic.

Your lack of study is obvious by your posts.

Oh, and if you read the last post you made in this thread, you will see the arrogance is not by me.

Oh but I do. And I and many others who study our Bibles diligently have reached a conclusion different from yours. So, what it does boil down to is that you are saying that your interpretation of Scripture is correct and others' is wrong. That sounds mightily like arrogance to me.

    See above

No, I have just reached a different conclusion to you. Why are you unable to accept that my conclusion may be as valid as yours, except for arrogance?

    See above.

Look thou not upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

A clear command to abstain, Matt. It does not say after you have woe, contention, redness of eyes, wounds without cause; leave it alone. No, it says leave it alone when it is fermented.

Of course you reject that truth... as many do.

The wine that warned against in Proverbs 23:31 is not the same wine that is found in Isaiah 65:8. The former is fermented, the latter is unfermented.

You have to do a lot of dancing to try to destroy that truth. But try as you might, change the meaning to today's meaning of wine all you want, but God's Word abideth for ever. Wine warned against was alcoholic and all who deny that truth set forth in Scripture will one day have to stand before God and face consequences.

Wine that contained a blessing was not alcoholic and those who partake of that will be in obedience to the Word of God.

Of course you missed the preceding verse: "Do not tarry long at the wine". It doesn't say "abstain", just don't overdo it.

Thus is demonstrated again the dangers of quoting texts outwith their context and the counsel of the Church.

Twisting the Scripture does not help your case, Matt.

Verse 30 is telling who has the woe and contention and redness of eyes , sorrow and wounds without cause. Those that tarry long at the wine.

Then Solomon says Don't have experience with the wine. He did not say after you have drunk some put it down. He said "Look thou not". Hebrew translated to be Don't have experience with it, don't approve of it, don't even consider it.'

Well, if one even takes one drink, they are disobeying the command to not have experience with that alcohol.

Well, I believe you are wrong in your interpretation of these Scriptures. Tell you what, I'll allow you to have your interpretation and won't force you to have a drink with me if you'll allow me mine and not forbid me from drinking, as per Rom 14.

I don't forbid you to drink, but God's Word does. Your argument is with Him, not me.

To disobey His command for abstinence is rebellion against His Word.

God and I are fine about it and I trust you will be content to leave it at that: I'm not going to force my views on you and I hope as a brother in Christ you will repay that courtesy.

As I said your argument concerning alcohol in the life of a believer is with God. His Word commands abstinence, and His Word never changes.

Knowing His Word never changes, I can't figure how God and you are fine with your drinking alcohol.

Maybe you just think God and you are fine with it.

Okay, then. What consequences will we be facing?

And maybe you just think we're not...

And maybe we're just engaging in a dialogue of the deaf and it would be best to stop now...

Talk to God about it. Read His Word. The answer is in there.

I am curious. Perhaps some of our foreign brethren can answer this.

Is the modern day tradition of declaring that the consumption of any alcohol is a sin mostly an American tradition? Is it as widespread in other countries as well? Is it mainly a Baptist thing that's as prevalent for most Baptists in all countries?

I'm not deaf... that's for sure. His Spirit has spoken to me through the Word and told me the truth. Don't have experience with fermented wine.

I didn't ask God. I asked you. You were the one who told us here we would face consequences. As a result of your post, I am asking you to tell us what you meant.

If you don't want to answer the question, perhaps you shouldn't have posted the remark in the first place.

If you're exhorting someone to do something or else "face the consequences" you ought to at least know and be willing to tell what those consequences are.

Doesn't matter how many believe it is ok to drink. A majority vote doesn't override God's Word and His Word commands abstinence.

Doesn't matter how many believe it is a sin to drink either. God's Word says it is forbidden whether we believe it or not.
