Earnest of the Spirit, partial payment. Does this mean partial payment of fulfillment of the Spirit?
I ask this in context to these verses; I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire:Whose fan [is] in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
I will add I believe the baptism with fire here would be to be cast into hell. You may agree or disagree with that however my question is. Could to be given the earnest of the Spirit be construed as being baptized with the Spirit?
Are we presently baptized with the Spirit or as Jesus said here Matt. 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: (This was speaking od something other that his water baptism) Can the earnest mean to be immerse into?
Earnest of our inheritance, partial payment. Partial payment in what manner relative to what we will inherit? What will we inherit?
Alright Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at Salvation when you are both indwelt, which never stops and filled with the Spirit which stops when you sin but begins upon confession of sin. The bible is clear be ye not drunk with wine wherein is excess but be ye filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18. You are indwelt and filled at salvation by the Holy Spirit and that is the Baptism of the Spirit.
Christ brings salvation with that comes Baptism of the Spirit and it is immediate. That part of the prophecy of John the Baptist has been fulfilled.
But He also sadi Christ would baptize with fire, that means judgement. The Baptism of fire is seen when Chrisr seperates the sheep from the Goats
Matthew 25: 31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
When they go into eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire that is the Baptism of Fire. It is yet a future event.
So Christ Baptize us today with the Spirit and He will baptize the unbeliever at judgement with fire.
