Pastor brought “Easter eggs” into the sanctuary last week. Little kids passed them out. Candy inside, asked for donations to Annie Armstrong be put into the eggs and dropped in a box on the way out.

Yikes!!!! I’m a thousand years old with no place to go to church!!!
Oh, I don’t know--if it provoked the joy of giving, I might suggest using hollow plastic eggs every Sunday. :Wink

First Church of Methuselah :Laugh

On a more serious note, I would be more worried about those who really do see Easter eggs as a reason to leave a church.

That (alone) would be a troubling reason for a Christian to abandon the people he or she has entered into such a relationship.
I understood that from the first post

What I don’t understand is why you believe it’s a problem with the person who would separate from a fellowship he believes is doing something disgraceful and dishonoring toward God.

peace to you

If it were something less petty (something actually sinful per Scripture) then I would not have a problem.

I have seen people abandon the church they had committed them selves to for very petty issues (moving buildings, changing the order of service, using music they do not like, etc.)

So we disagree on the meaning of “petty”. I see “Easter eggs/hunts” as a serious error in our churches. Not a petty issue at all.

peace to you

I think you are assuming.

Ask then why they are hiding Easter eggs. If they ate worshipping a pagan god then it is not petty.

But if it is just a tradition without such religious significance to the participants then it is petty.

That said, there were some who would not eat meat or drink wine that had been sacrificed to idols. Paul addressed this as superstitious BUT said those of a stronger faith should accommodate those of a weaker faith. You should let them know how you feel and how from there.

Just know even looking after the weaker brothers a church has to keep in mind the good of the whole and this may include allowing for others to live their own lives.

That thought crossed my mind as well, but not sure that it's a fair application. It sounds like this particular practice is being done in the assembly, which hardly allows an individual choice, or a private one. I personally have no problem with them, so it's easy for me.

The Orthodox have Pascha egg traditions. No Easter Bunny. The eggs are hard-boiled and dyed red. They relate them to Christ's blood, the tomb, rolling away the stone. Speaking of which…

Christ is risen!

He is risen indeed!

I considered that too. I think the best thing to do is explain his feelings and don't participate in the mission effort (at least through that collection method).

We cannot expect all to hold our views - they are not perfect like you and I :Biggrin .

God help anybody as "perfect" as I am. They will need huge extra helpings of grace and mercy. :Thumbsdown
