Headbanging aside, the terrorist are winning because the people are co-operating with their fight. The clearest example of this was the recent acceptance of the president's kill order for an American citizen with neither judicial nor legislative backing.

The Patriot Act has made suspects out of ordinary citizens going about their own business. Flying is now a total surrender of privacy right as we allow ourselves to stripped, prodded, and poked by government officials. Wiretapping of ordinary citizens it part and parcel of the American way of life.

Terrorists can of course bring about a surprise attack. They win that battle, but they win the war when they change our way of life.

You are absolutely correct. You said it better than I, but it is what I have been trying to say for over five years.

I believe some on the BB would find his book, From Pagan to Christian interesting. It chronicles his faith journey. His father was a Christian minister. His journey of faith from Christianity to Taoism and Buddhism, and back to Christianity in his later life was recorded in his book From Pagan to Christian (1959).

When someone is holding a gun to your head you can say I am not going to let you win so I am going to let you shoot me is not a logical or smart move. It is real easy to sit in your chair and criticize but we are talking about people's lives here. It is not a game.

Agreed. My liberty is not a game. It is not to be toyed with because we are afraid of what the bad guys might do next.

We have large electronic message boards across Interstates and major roads here. I was upset when not long after 9/11 the message, Report Suspicious Activity followed by a phone number. One of the ideas I grew up hearing was, "We in the US do not spy on our citizens nor do we ask them to spy on each other." This, IMHO, was and is a prime example of how terrorists are winning the war though they loose all the battles.

I have not seen this sign on the electronic board recently. I do not know if it was decided this was a very negative phrase, considering we call ourselves "the land of the free, the home of the brace." I hope never to see it again ... I have never seen a sign with this sentiment in any country I have ever traveled or lived in and that includes a number of former Communist controlled countries as well as Russia and China.

It's a poor comparison.

Murrow was referring to basically one man, who was ruining lives , but killing no one. Such is not the case today.

The message boards are there to tell of traffic conditions and that is a very good use IMHO.

Then do you want to get rid of such messages as "Missing elderly...[make of car, license]" or "Amber alert...6 year old girl, brown hair, missing since 8 a.m. today"? Those are not traffic conditions.

Incidentally, reporting suspicious activity-- or "citizens spying on each other"-- is not new with recent terrorist activity. Since the 70's, if not before, it has been illegal to not report a case of suspected child abuse. Now, the animal rightsters are into it, making (or trying to) it illegal to not report suspected "puppy mills" or too many cats at a little old lady's house.
