Entertainment or Exhortation?

Does your church strive to mix Christian entertainment with teaching in order to fill the pews; or have you stayed the course of preaching and teaching the Gospel in such a way that draws in the faithful, hungry and lost to your pews?

And is having entertainment on Sunday mornings really a bad thing, if it gets visitors into the pews so the Word can be shared?

I would like your opinion based on what you as a pastor, or a member of a church, feel led to do?

Entertainment of the flesh by displaying subtle lust of flesh, lust of eyes and pride of life has never been appropriate in the House of God. Many church members are conformed to the world. Many have no clue as to the difference between flesh and spirit.

God is not amused nor entertained. See Mt. 7--the churches which God never knew.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

I don't know what you mean by entertainment but we do have someone leading the worship/singing time and this week we had a full band of young men who were very good. Having them this week DID bring in their wives as well and an extra set of parents (not all of the young men attend our church).

We have shown video clips that would be helpful for the message but I'm not sure that counts as "entertainment".

We have also had at times a dance/mime kind of thing during the offering as a "special music" but we don't do it regularly so it's not like it's something that draws people to attend church on it's own.

Never has the Word of God not been central to our services. I don't know that I've seen a church where "entertainment" takes the place of the message.

I am not lumping good praise and worship, entertainment Ann. There are mega churches paying big bucks to feature Christian and secular artists and movie stars to appear at their services.

I love a well rehearsed worship band and leader that knows how to involve people in preparing their hearts and minds for the message. God bless you for asking, I am sorry for any misunderstanding.

Ahhh - then NO WAY!!! LOL - Actually, we do have a Christmas play every year at our home campus that is very well attended but that does not take the place of the Sunday service. We won't use our church for anything secular.

The purpose of worship is not to entertain God or the congregation. All one need to do is study Scripture, particularly the Old Testament, and they will learn that many things people call worship are an abomination to God!

Eater egg hunts is about as pagen as a church can be. The bunny rabbit and the eggs is worshipping a god of fertility.

I take it Christmas trees and Halloween pumpkins are forbidden as well? What about fourth of July patriotic services?

The OT was LAW the NT is Grace. Anything goes now. Any means justify the ends. If you have to get drunk with a man to get him to say the sinner prayer.. then so be it. Lighten Up Old Regular and get with the times.
