They resigned from being swat team members - not police. They will still get paid, still collect pensions, etc.

They said they were under-trained and under-equipped. So, this resignation is likely a good thing since an under-trained and under-equipped swat team is likely to do more harm than good.

Hallandale Beach SWAT resigns not over chief taking a knee, but lack of support, they say

While they cited many issues for their resignations, the last straw was when members of the Command Staff took a knee in solidarity, they said, not because of the gesture but because of whom the SWAT team believed they were supporting and what was the reason for the display.

“Lastly and most shockingly," they said, “having members of the Command Staff taking a knee in solidarity with Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana (who stated she wants the officers ‘fired and charged’) and a handful of political activists that chanted, “Howard Bowe, re-open the case...” showed a lack of support," they stated.

Sure the Gateway Punishment wouldn't use a misleading headline.

But is it misleading?:

While they cited many issues for their resignations, the last straw was when members of the Command Staff took a knee in solidarity, they said, not because of the gesture but because of whom the SWAT team believed they were supporting and what was the reason for the display.

“Lastly and most shockingly," they said, “having members of the Command Staff taking a knee in solidarity with Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana (who stated she wants the officers ‘fired and charged’) and a handful of political activists that chanted, “Howard Bowe, re-open the case...” showed a lack of support," they stated.

So it wasn't the symbolic gesture of kneeling that was the last straw, it was that the symbolic act of kneeling showed a lack of support? Would it have been the last straw with no reference to Bowe even if the Vice Mayor knelt? So confused.

The Swat team resigned from their assignment because they felt the kneeling was supporting the vice mayor who they had a beef with, not because they felt it supported BLM.
