I see what you are saying, HCL, that the physical requirements were changed so that women could qualify for jobs that had been traditionally for men. I was thinking about the educational qualifications, etc.

I am confused, however, about your attitude toward your job and perhaps this discussion should be continued in the What is a Feminist Thread as I believe it is off the subject of equal rights.

I am not following why you thought your job would prepare you for a wife and mother. Did you expect the job to educate you to be a Biblical Wife and Mother? I'm not trying to be difficult here, I just don't understand. Most people do the job that is required to earn a salary to support themselves or their families.

I can see where recruiters could make a job seem glamourous.

Since I don't know anything about your childhood, I don't know how you were misled.

About being misled. I went in to that job as a non-Christian. The feminist teachings I received as a child and beyond taught me that it was good to be a feminist that I too should fight for my rights, be like a man, etc.

Fast foward to when after I became a Christian and began reading God's Word. I learned that these things are not Biblical and that someone (older Christian women) should have been teaching me as it is laid out in Titus 2:3-5. As a new Christian I did know some older ladies and sadly they encouraged me to remain in this man's job.

I did not think that being in that position would help me to be a good wife and mother. At that time I did not want to be one. That was too low of a job.

From my feminist backround I was taught to not desire marriage or motherhood. But, to desire a career.

HCL, I think you're confusing equality of sexes in regards to legal rights and protection, and biblical responsibilities pertaining to the sexes.

The Bible defines many responsibilities for many things: man, woman, husband, wife, adult, child, master, servant, pastor, teacher, singer, etc etc etc. But just because the Bible lays these things out as far as one's responsibility, doesn't mean that rights should be curbed based on these positions in life.

I reassert my previous post: All people, regardless of gender, race, creed, or adult age, should be treated equally, and given equal opportunity, especially in the area of legal protection.

    JohnV and others,
I think you seem to be a bit confused about compartmentalizing Christianity.

I am done with feminism. I want no part of it.

I think I have said all I need to say on this subject.

Explain. Guaranteeing a person's legal rights without regard to their genitals is by no means a compartmentalization of Christianity.
Feminism, at its core, calls for the legal rights of women being the same as men. By that reckoning, I'm a feminist. If, you're referring to radical feminism (aka, feminist extremism, aka feminaziism), which is giving women special rights in addition to the afore mentioned, I am not one of these. Perhaps you're confusing the two.

Fine, but so far, there's been no biblical reason shown to withhold legal rights from based on gender. I, as a Christian, will NEVER EVER call for this nation to take rights away from men or women, based on what's between their legs.

If you don't believe that men and women are different then you haven't been a very good observer of men and women and boys and girls.

    I think I am confused!
Equal rights for women have been fought for for a very long time. For that I am happy. As a woman I have the right to vote. As a christian woman I have the right to vote for whom I feel would be a good leader. Whether that be President, Governor, Senator, Congressman, Mayor, County Treasurer, Or even elected staff of a church.
Feminism can be a bad thing, it CAN also be a good thing.
I am a SAHM of two children. I have also in the past worked outside the home with my children in daycare. I had a job that I LOVED!! The only reason why I still do not have that job, is because we moved away from that area where that job was at. In that job, I was paid fairly for what I did. I even received 4 promotions (with pay raises) in the 3 years that I was there. I do NOT regret working outside the home. In fact, after we are where we are for another year, so that I qualify for in state tuition, I plan to go to college and get my degree in Criminology. I do not think that every woman must stay at home, only wear dresses, cook only from scratch, etc.
I think that Prov 31 shows that a woman can be a woman and still work, be a mom, own property, and still be feminine.

No one has said that men and women aren't different. The arguement is that men and women should be entitled to the equal rights and freedoms, without regard to their genitals.

    Here's my take:

Men and women each have roles they have to play, and they are of equal importance. The problem comes in when someone thinks the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I read in a Time/Life book where women were actually demanding wages for housework. I was like, why? The husband should work and bring home the dough, the woman should keep the house and mind the kids. They work together. It's called teamwork.

Yeah, I have a full-time job and wish I didn't. But as I mentioned in another thread my husband wants me to work so we'll have enough money to pay bills. After taxes and deductions (car insurance, medical insurance), there's not a whole lot left.

Actually he doesn't care if I work outside or inside the home so long as I bring in an income. Can anyone help me with that?

    Alexandra,
There is a book called, "Women Leaving the Workplace," written by the late Larry Burkett. If it still in print you might find it at www.crown.org

What types of skills do you have? Make a list. Most likely you do have a skill that you can market from home, like the Proverbs 31 woman did.

How blessed you are that he will allow you to work from home. Praise God for that! I am praying that God will open a door soon for this.

He doesn't care what I do as long as I bring in an income and it's legit. [IMG] He doesn't care if I'm on leave of absence as long as I get paid--I'm on a paid medical leave.

I recently started learning how to crochet...though I doubt that would bring in a lot of money.
