China can sell it's holdings of US debt, but other countries would buy it. They sold quite a bit in 2015, but it really had no effect on the US economy.

No, that's not how it works - this debt is not like a mortgage you can just call-in, this form of debt is just T-bills, the terms of payment and interest are set and you can't demand prepayment.
