So, Frank, I'm assuming that you believe tht when you sin and die before repenting, you are hell bound. Of course this means that you had been saved. Don't we all perhaps committ a sin or so daily, and not even realize it untill latter? I firmly believe that or LACK of ability to not sin, as we are still a sinful creation since Adam and Eve, is why God sent Jesus to die on the cross. He knew that we would always committ sin of varying degrees till me die and would not always know we sinned(as there are many to deal with), and may not repent before we die. One would almost always have to be repenting just to be sure. With the vast time difference between when the books were written and now, I do not think we are capable of knowing what all the possible sins are now in this modern, sin filled world. There is a debate on this site about when is drinking and gluttony actually a sin! Where is the line drawn? I wish I was perfect with no sin but I know I sin almost, if not, everyday.

One must live a life of examination and repentance. II Cor. 13:5,I John 1:5-7. You do not have to be flawless but faithful.Rev.2:10. One who fails to repent of his willful practice of sin will stand in judgement givng account of the transgressions. Romans 14:12.

About motal sin. I wonder, if like in many cases, we in our earthy minds are making more of this passage (the one you quoted) then we should. Perhaps this is saying that there are "sins" that lead to death, like throwing somebody off a cliff to claim their livestock, or beating someone with a club, etc... There are many sins which lead to a death. Why would it not be that simple? Why do you continue to make the word of God so complex?, when the message brought forth by Jesus was anything but complex. Those are my initial, not looked into it thoughts, which btw are usually my best thoughts

Hi Brian,

Did you receive my 7 updates from the walk over the course of the summer through Yahoo Groups? If not, how did you find out about the persecution (e.g. on the Golden Gate Bridge), etc?

I would respond in the negative to the idea that "mortal" in the 5th chapter of St. John's first catholic epistle refers to sin that kills on the natural order (e.g. murder or homicide).

My reasoning would entail a careful survey of the immediate context, which is speaking of life, life, and life. Mortal sin brings about death. In the immediate surrounding context, the life spoken of is the supernatural eternal life offered by the Son.

Hi Carson, I did receive your updates. I did not have time to read every word but I read some or most of everyone. It sounded like you guys had a good time and were a good example to those around you. It seems when you attract persecution you must be doing something right. Being pro-life to some associates us with those who shoot up abortion clinics and so on. Standing firm for Christ can be difficult but can also be rewarding. Thanks for the updates. I caught part of one update on EWTN also.

Without even reading all the thread I am going to post what I did on another thread.

Ruht you sound like a member of many of the different churches out there who teach that their way is the right way. The Oneness Pentecostals call people blind and talk about how God as blinded people from the truth. So do the mormons and the Jehovah Witnesses and so did David Koresh and Jim Jones. When I start hearing people say that God has hidden the truth from others even though that person is talking about Grace that immediately sends a red flag up in my head that something is wrong in their belief.

I may believe I am right but I am not going to call people names and tell them they are blind
or that God has hid the truth from them. Nor am I going to call them a legalist because we don't agree.
