Here are two secrets:

Secret #1: I deleted my own thread at the request of another member. I was not the member who deleted the one's Icon is speaking of. That is why we have to be very careful when making assumptions about other people.

Secret #2: Those threads never went AWOL. That is just what we let people believe. They were executed for treason. ;)

Jon, in the end, this is just a discussion board. It is a poor substitute for in-person relationships. Do not get me wrong. It has its place. I am a moderator on another online venue, so I know what goes with the job. Sometimes it is a thankless task. The back-channel dialogue I have with my fellow moderators is probably similar to what goes on here. We do strive for transparency and accountability with each other. We are not perfect and sometimes we err. The one thing we do is communicate back to the member if a post or thread is deleted. We tell them the action that was taken and why. The why part is important because it helps the member understand the reason an administrative action was taken. Perhaps that will be a wake-up call for someone to change their behavior if they were out of line. That said, this board does have its rules and if it ever gets to the point that someone cannot abide by them then they should leave. No one has a gun to our head keeping us here. Unless you are in Chicago or Detriot.

We typically do the same. I can't say for certain but I think the member who deleted Icon's post did let him know. I am not sure why he attributes it to me.

That said, we really do not execute AWOL posts. To the dismay of some, they are never actually deleted (just like "edits" are not without record).

Since I have been here the normal policy has been that if there is a question about a moderator action, then ask. If this is done many of these false accusations and conclusions can be avoided. People may not like the answer, but the staff here will provide an honest answer.

I have been a member of a "Christian" forum that was ran by dishonest administrators. I am a member of several forums, and encountered that only on one - I consider it an exception. No one is perfect but the staff here is honest and will provide an honest reply.

But we all have real lives too. So please do not always expect a reason for an edit. Just ask if there is a question.
