Pastor fatally shot attacker during service [LINK]

Here's a case where the pastor sent someone to their father.

DETROIT — Detroit police say the pastor of a storefront church shot and killed a man who tried to attack him during a service.
Assistant Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt tells the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press the shooting happened Sunday afternoon just after the start of a service at the City of God church.
Dolunt says the man and the pastor had prior "issues." He says the man was threatening the pastor with a brick when the pastor pulled out a pistol and shot him several times. The man died a short time later at a hospital.

Just a sad story on many levels. A pastor feeling he needs to carry during a service? Shooting someone wielding a brick?

Sad that he had to shoot the man but a brick can do a lot of damage. He may have even been killed himself. He had no choice but to protect himself from this man. It is sad when you have to carry on gun on your for protection because you never know what may happen. I am sure he never would have shot him if he didn't feel as though his life was in danger.

No, and I've never been hit by a skateboard either. Doesn't mean the proper response is to shoot to kill someone that's threatening you with one.

Unless you can put yourself in someone elses head and perceive the danger they did, as they did, at the time they did, your opinion on this matter doesn't carry much weight.. Getting hit in the head by a brick could easily be fatal.

Yes, and getting shot is usually fatal.

It is so sad that even the church is not a safe place. I'm glad that the pastor was able to stop the young man although it's sad the young man chose to do this and ended up losing his life.

#1, if you are going to shoot...shoot to kill.

#2, both a brick and a skateboard can easily produce life threatening damage. If someone is attacking me with either of these items, I will certainly shoot to kill.

If a man comes at me with just his hands threatening to kill me and I am armed with a gun, the man is getting a slug or two. Why should I just let him beat me to death or strangled me?

If we had teachers with concealed pistols there would be a whole lot of children still alive today that have been slaughtered in the "gun free zones".

The guy had a brick. The pastor didn't need to shoot him multiple times to cause his death. And if they had prior issues and he felt threatened, the pastor should have had security at the door. Some churches lock their doors at a certain time so people can't come in and do this.

Blame the victim, right?

You don't say?! Why, we had no clue!
The law commanded in the twenty-third chapter of Moses' fifth book, And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:

That is a command, friend. God did not want ancient Israelites to get literally caught with their ephods down. In the third Gospel according to S. Luke chapter 36, Jesus commanded,
Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Afore had the Messiah forbad two staves in Matthew, and scrip or sandals and coat extra because the twelve needed to trust his provenance, in addition to his protection as Master; here we see Jesus in just a few chapters was to go back completed, victorious to the Father's right hand, so the disciples needed to have staves for defence, as well as swords in case as this pastor found a beast, bipedal or quadrupedal or flying, decide to fall on them.
You do not let a Child touch a firearm unsupervised; there come a time when he is older, mayhaps about to leave his parents, when an invader come he fetch the gun to save himself while father is away. Selah! (As ol' Dallas Bunch says).

Okay, In The Light, as the to-be cleaner of the world's largest gun collection, let me ask you a question or several:
•On a semiauto pistol, what is a slide?
•Why is a revolver called so?
•More people die according to the FBI violent crime data from sharp or blunt force trauma than by GSW. If this is so, firearms are not used much in contrast to the aforementioned, so should guns be banned, or blunt & sharp force?
•Fear is cast out as John says by perfect love. Do you fear guns?

Do you like to write stuff off the top of your head with little or no forethought? Do you like to read and re-read your posts thinking they are witty and erudite?

I'm not in the "ban all guns crowd", not by a long shot. <----a little John Public humor there...
Putting me in that camp is classic knee-jerk prejudice. I'll keep an eye out for it in your other posts.

I don't fear guns. I defend the 2nd amendment. I just think the pastor's response to kill a person holding a brick was a bit of an overreaction. You turn my observation into a screed on how I'm an ignorant gun fearing, gun banning clown. Shame on you.

You're (supposedly) new to Baptist Board. You have come here in virulent attack mode from the get-go. What is with that?

Apparently, from what I heard on the radio this morning, the "issue" was that the pastor who shot and killed the man with the brick had been having an affair with the man's wife and impregnated her.

He knew he was wrong.

Love triangle probed in Detroit church shooting
DetroitA man, who police say attacked a pastor with a brick at a church service before the pastor whipped out his Glock handgun and fatally fired back, ranted weeks before on Facebook that his pastor had gotten his wife pregnant.

Two Detroit police sources said detectives were investigating a possible love triangle between man who died, his wife and their pastor.

Deante Smith’s younger sister, Deja Ward, said Monday evening that her brother, who was killed Sunday, went to City of God Ministry on Grand River near Lahser to get closure with the pastor before pursuing counseling with his wife.

The couple had previously lived with the pastor, whom Smith considered a mentor and called dad, Ward said.

“He never brought beef to anybody,” Ward said of her brother. “He wanted closure so he could start counseling. I guess it turned a whole other way.”

I knew something about this story was going unreported. I was going to ask how big the brick was, but I suppose it could have been a small stone. It seems the pastor was set on killing the man.

Present your evidence that the pastor was planning on killing him.

Right now, it still looks like a clearcut case of self defense, regardless of the reasons for the attack.
