I posted this on another thread, but I would like to make this the main subject:

A local talk show host said - It is the responsibility of all Americans to help those in need, even those who refuse to work!

So what is your thoughts about this talk show host?

There are those who cannot work and those who refuse to work. Those who refuse to work do not deserve anything given to them. There are SO many out there would would do anything to work if they could but for whatever reason they can't. But to just be lazy? Nope - sorry. You're on your own.

I am compassionate to a fault, especially to those who are unable to work. But I work hard to get by, and don't feel those who are able but just are lazy deserve to benefit from the labor of others when they don't contribute.

It's purely Biblical. You don't work, you don't eat.

But what about atheists?

MP, we are still praying for you -
As Steve Urkle (Family Matters) would say, - we're wearing you down

The guys who stand at freeway entrances with signs . . . would any one of you hire them? Does the ability to work include the ability to be hired?

I wouldn't hire anyone who stands around holding a sign waiting for work to come to him. If someone REALLY wants work, they will seek it out, not stand around and wait.

I've been the guy at a freeway entrance and I've talked to and hung out with many guys from freeway entrances. Nothing was stopping me (or these others) from getting a real job. We all just were content to live a gypsy type lifestyle moving from place to place on an almost daily basis. It was a lifestyle choice.

And you call others lazy?

I don't mind helping those who cannot work, but to give an able-bodied man a handout because he will not work is something I will not do.

It's amazing these people almost always have a cigarette in their mouths. At $4.00 to $7.00 a pack, I wonder how they afford it!

I did a study on this for my own use about 30 years ago and got upset over it. There are some with mental problems and there are many with drug or alcohol mental induces problems. Most start off with being rebellious in their life style and all goes down hill.

Then I read it cost the government eighty four dollars to give away a dollar, I got real upset. I found out how much this was costing the country and that up set me. Then I found out two of my sister in laws kids were living off the government and still are. This has been going on, shall I say off and on for years, now that up sets me big time, someone in my family(tell my wife it is her's but I'm married into the family so it is mine too) doing it. And our liberal politicians tell me if it helps one it is all worth it, I don't go that far, maybe I should but I don't. But it does keep a lot of social workers going and other government workers.

Yes, I was certainly lazy at that point in my life. I was not saved, a drug addict, an alcoholic, and engaged in many other sinful activities. Just because one was was a lazy bum does that mean I can't change my life and then point out other lazy bums? It would seem that, since I was once a lazy bum, that I'm in the unique position to be able to more easily spot lazy bums! ;)

I have a friend whose Father would never work. Not couldn't , wouldn't.

Thanks God my parents taught us kids that it did not matter. They needed our help, and we gave it to them.

Judge not, only take care of the needs that the Lord places in front of you.

Call it "social gospel" if you will, Momma and Daddy called it "doin' what baptized folks do".

If everyone else was taking care of him no wonder he wouldn't work....he didn't need to!

I'm guessing that you never joined a Union.

No, I've never joined a union and I wouldn't join one. I'm perfectly capable of working hard and allowing my work ethic to speak for itself. I don't need a union to negotiate for me. If I don't like the working conditions at my job I'll either tough it out or find another job. I don't need to pay a union to handle these details for me.

I work a lot on weekends. The union may think that the world stops on weekends, but in the real world stuff still needs to get done.
