    Hi everyone; [IMG]

I forgot one and that is when you were saved did you realize that being saved is a commitment to Christ to allow Him to live through you.I realize that today we Americans have disregarded the meaning of the word commitment So I offer my definition of the word. A commitment is a contract that you cannot back out of.Maybe I should call it a devoted commitment one that you would be willing to die for rather than give up.One that you LOVE with every fiber of your being. This is what being saved means to me.A person is saved or born again in the spirit when he/she believes in Christ as the son of God

Most do. There is nothing incompatible with that here, unless you are a primitive.

    Yes.

Personally speaking, I have no idea. From talking and ministering to others, very few are dragged to church. Most walk in on their own. Some have been invited, some have been very strongly invited, others have just shown up.

Personally no. Although I know some who have.

As for commitment to Christ, it is something you grow in through your spiritual life. When I share the gospel message, I make sure that people know what it is they are doing. But that commitment is never perfect; it is constantly growing.

The Bible speaks of receiving Christ and people saying "Lord be merciful to me a sinner" but I don't find anywhere where people are called upon to "invite Christ," "let Christ," or to ask Him to "come into our heart." As for me, I will stay with the Bible.

    Hi Primitive Baptist; [IMG]
Actually If you haven't repented of your sin and made a commitment to Christ you are not Saved. If you have not allowed Christ to live his life in you .You are lost. The sinners prayer is making a commitment asking God to live His life in you to come into your life and give you a heart of flesh.I hope your heart is not as hard as your head.I realize that you think that you are the only person on this board that thinks he has a perfect religon. All I can say is that if you haven't prayed that sinners prayer and made that commitment then by all means please do.Because if you don't ask it won't be given.

What's so great about the 'sinner's prayer'
Are they some kinda magical words that when you sounds the concluding "amen" then you are saved?

All the bible preaches is to believe.

It does not say, "whosoever sayeth the sinner's prayer, to him shall be granted etenral life"

well Guess what, romanbear, I have never recited the 'sinner's prayer', but I beleive in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I beleive that he is the atoning sacrifice for my sins and that he died for me on the cross and because of that, I will be with God forever.

Oh, but wait, I havn't said the magical 'sinner's prayer', oh well, i'm guess i'm going to hell, regardless if everything I said above was true and that I strive to live as Jesus did and follow him, i'm still going to hell.

Amen! The Bible never teaches the "sinner's prayer." Actually it never teaches the idea of making a "commitment" to Christ either, yet you have assumed the position to tell others to do things that must be done in order to "get saved" that the Bible never teaches. It would be hard for me to believe that anyone who claims to be a child of God has never cried, "God be merciful to me a sinner." However, that is not the issue. The issue is that you have the audacity to speak lies concerning the word of God. Such terminology is never used in the Scriptures with reference to salvation or with reference to anything for that matter. Unbiblical terminology is bound to lead to unbiblical doctrine, and in your case, it obviously has. However, I do not claim perfection. Perhaps I have totally missed such phrases. Please enlighten me if the New Testament writers employed such terminology in their writings. Perhaps I am lost, world without end, because I have not recited the "sinner's prayer." Is it like a magical incantation whereby sinners are connected with God or something? Give me a break...

    Hi Traveling Minstrel;
Haven't you ever confessed your sins or repented? With out repentance there is no forgiveness of sins. Thus the sinners prayer.

The only prayer we of Adam's race can ever pray is the sinner's prayer. I would dare to say any prayer I ever offer at the Throne of Grace shall be of such content.

The goodness of God leadeth you unto repentance.

    God Bless.

I only said that I did not recite the 'sinner's prayer' as some kind of initation ceremony, I merely asked for forgivemess and repented.
Within my heart, I knew, and I did not formally go through the 'sinner's prayer'.

    Works...

Works are not the author of salvation, works are the sign of the authenticity of salvation.

If there are no works, then the authenticity of the salvation is questionable.

Only if you pronounce it right and follow it with "Klatu Barata Nikto". (Or is that Necktie? Dang, I may not be saved.)

Seriously, I don't recall the thief on the cross saying the sinner's prayer, but one could make a case that it's basically the same thing.

    1. "We are getting what we deserve": Recognition that he is a sinner and needs mercy.

    2. "Remember me when you come into your kingdom": A recognition that Jesus is Lord.

'Striving to live for Him' sounds like a faith works belief. I thought we all believed that Christ saved us only by grace. [Ephesians 2:8] Good works will be rewarded by Christ in Heaven [I Corinthians 3:11-15] but have no part in our eternal salvation.

    I agree Bro. Ray,

But I believe our works are to be rewarded in the Kingdom Age, heaven, as our eternal resting place, and reward is a done deal. The rewards then would be given when Christ returns to establish His Kingdom from the throne of David.

    God Bless.

    romanbear,

Unless you can show me in the Bible where it teaches the "sinner's prayer," you are preaching a false gospel. Preachers give false hope to reprobates by preaching that all one has to do is repeat a prayer and sign a decision card, then walk like a reprobate. Nevertheless, it is all good with you because you made a "decision for Christ." Jesus said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

So, where does the Bible teach the "sinner's prayer?" If it does not, just admit that you are wrong.

    Frogman,

I agree with your post dated 1/15/ at 4:08. For such a dignified person-Frogman seems very carefree and casual.

    Hi P.B.
    A quote from you;
    _________________________________________________
Unless you can show me in the Bible where it teaches the "sinner's prayer," you are preaching a false gospel.
    ________________________________________________
Doesn't God's word say that we should repent and ask forgiveness for our sins?.Haven't you ever asked for God to forgive you of your sins.Have you ever accepted Christ? have you ever prayed and asked the lord to change your life? All of these things could be considered a sinners prayer. Do I believe in repeating the same prayer over and over again? No. but if you don't ask you will not receive. If you never acknowledge God you will never be saved.I don't think I would be so bold as to suppose that a sinners prayer is insincere and meaningless. There is never anything funny about a man seeking God in prayer. Those who claim to be Christian and make fun of someone in prayer are going to have answer to God some day don't you think.Since prayer is sacred and between the man praying and God you have no right to criticize.I don't preach a false gospel.I'm not a preacher,But I am a Christian who does not make fun of people in prayer.I have to say this P.B. Since I've been here at Baptist Board I met Calvinist who are vindictive and full of hatred for others with differing views.Vindictive statements such as yours is commen here.If this is what Calvinist are like. I don't want any part of them.To accuse me of preaching a false gospel is wrong. When you show your disdain for others in such a spiteful way. How can you ever possibility think that people would be attracted to Calvinism?.There is just no love in your heart for others when you use such a statement...Your ignorance of God's love is apparent,You should be apologizing. But like I said I'll be praying for you. Here is the scripture you asked for.
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Do you think this confession is made to some preacher or to God and if God how you going to do that with out prayer.Don't you think it's a good thing to ask God for forgiveness.

    Romanbear
    Peace
