I always understood biblical hermeneutics as the science of interpretation, so exegesis would naturally its handmaid.

Exegesis is more specific; dealing with the words, grammar, syntax, context, and literary structure. Hermenuetics is the integration of the exegesis with biblical theology, sytematic theology, and historical theology.

Hermeneutics would be the art of biblical interpretation and the application of that interpretation to a contemporary society.

The bible never says what it never intended to say.
