Do you believe exorcisms are a valid practice for today?

Would this be anything like what Bob Larson does
or the so called deliverence movement?

or are you talking about a traditional RCC
exorcism, or both?

I guess my thoughts would harken back to the movie
"The Exorcists" and how I will never ever eat
green pea soup again!

other than that my eight other
personalities have no opinion.

but seriously its a good poll and a good question
but what type of exorcism? deliverance or RCC
or both.

Both, I guess. Whatever you think is genuine exorcism.

My wife & I recently moved into a new house that was owned previously by a 3 time widow.

Two husbands died, and one committed suicide. This house was decorated to the EXTREME oriental style.

I came over to the house a week or so before we moved in and I went through the house and "exorcised" any evil spirits that may have found comfort there.

The history here, and the extreme "orientalness" had me thinking that there just may be some supernatural evil forces at play & I sure didn't want them here when we moved in.

After the "exorcism" and giving God free reign, I didn't feel any massive wave of relief, but I sure did feel much more at ease about the whole deal.

I asked God to fill this property with his love so strong that any evil forces would be positively repelled if they attempted to encroach.

So obviously I do believe that exorcisms are valid today, but unfortunately it's not very PC to admit that evil spirits actually exist. Specially when they are now explained as "mental problems, bad environmental influences, emotional problems, heredity, low self esteem" etc., etc.

Anything but the truth!

That is totally fascinating just for peace ..have
I blinked and there has been a sea change somewhere. Would 10 years ago this been done
except perhaps by RCC .

I know my old church
in Dallas/Ft.Worth got into the deliverance ministry and had a deliverance team but only went to one class seemed to be a lot of does and don'ts ,did not discount it but could see where it could get out of control. I think one of the things was how a familar could be a part of a christmas wreath, and thats where they kind of lost me.

My feelings about evil spirits were in the
realm ,on not even bringing them up ..them
and their leader, they seem to like the sound
of their own name. So my feelings were to keep
drowning them out with the Father, Son, and
Holy spirit and that would take care of those
kind of problems.

With that being said I think I would have
done something similar to what you did because
of the history of the house.

I believe that demons are around but I don't think we need to do exorcisms on houses. We can just pray and ask God to remove them if we think they are there.

An exorcism is actually a ritual and is used in a lot of non-Christian religions that believe in evil spirits, or it's sometimes used for "ghostbusting" by mediums.

I don't think Jesus practiced exorcism nor did the apostles. Jesus cast out demons by his power as God, and he bestowed that power on his apostles. An exorcism is a ritual or a technique.

Since we can go to the throne of God in Jesus' name, we don't need rituals.

You are more in need of exorcising the baloney within you.

I agree with that, but the word exorcism sounds so Catholic? Kinda like you exercise the demons until they are too week to fight. But everyone know what exercise does if you do it long enough. I for one don't want a Arnold Schwarzenegger demon floating around my house!

I do however believe that one can walk through a house praying in the name of Jesus and anoiting everything with oil dedicating everything to the Lord, including anoiting the front door and the back door and the family cars and trucks. :D

This is a question that I ask some of my more "charismatic" christian friends. Several of them tell I have to "speak" to demons and command them to leave in "the Name of Jesus". My reply is why do I need to speak to demons? Shouldn't I speak (and pray!) to God instead? I rather speak to God than to a demon anyway. I have nothing to say to a demons. Apparently sokme of my friends believe that God has given us power over demons and that we can command them "in the Name of Jesus" and demons MUST obey us. Then I ask my friends if this is true then why do demons continue to come back into our lives?

I don't think it happens today, that's why. You wanted an answer, you got one. But I'm not giving you a debate, so don't ask for one of those.

I believe only a non-believer can be possesed. I don't know how an exorcism is done but I believe that it must be done in the NAME of JESUS. I think if a possesed person does not come to believe in CHRIST he or she is out of luck! --just my opinion----------in HIS service -----sheila
