Face Masking the Morons

I can’t believe the people here in Hawaii wearing masks while driving down the street with windows rolled up.

Even more distressing is the ideas of selling masks to the masses.

A simple microfiber rag with a piece of Velcro stuck to the corners is what I use (reluctantly). I put it across my face and sick the velcro behind and keep it in my pocket. New Norm?

I wore a mask for the first time yesterday. Just one of those cheap, disposable, blue surgical masks. Wore it when I went to Wal Mart. I wore it do avoid getting dirty looks from other people, not for my own protection from Covid.

Like you, I laugh at people that wear masks when driving alone in their cars. Also people that wear masks outside. What's the point?

I need a haircut real bad. The barber shops are opening June 1st. I have a haircut appointment on June 5th. Mask wearing is required. Oh well...

I've seen a lot of poking fun [on Facebook] of people who wear masks while in the car.

Perhaps they just considered themselves fully dressed before cranking the car up a driving - not wanting to haggle with the mask once at their destination.

Actually it could be dangerous - Recently here in CNY there was an auto collision, and somehow the mask being worn appeared to be partly at fault..
Wish I could remember all the details - If I find, I will pass along.

I ran across an article that an accident was caused due to a lack of oxygen (wearing the mask too long) but I can't recall where.

Laugh all you like, mask wearers are probably laughing back.
I wear full protection garb at work, n95 mask, glasses, face shield, gown and gloves.
The simple blue surgical masks are generally used to protect others from the user. They do not filter out virus-sized particles.
They will filter droplet-sized particles generated by a sneeze or cough. Using a surgical mask shows that you care about others.
By my own observation I see that at least a third of people wear masks improperly, rendering them useless. Even more people reuse masks multiple times without washing making them simply dangerous.

I usually wear my mask in the car on my way to work, a 15 to 20 minute drive, because I am required to put it on before entering the building. It’s one less thing to do as I get out of the car.
I don’t wear it when traveling home.

There’s a 100% recovery rate. I say this because the 1% that die do so in God’s perfect timing. Had there been a real pandemic then perhaps a mask might make sense.

I agree that this is NOT a pandemic. - but that 1% - at least in the USA is over 100 thousand. Telling someone that was God's will is a dumb thing to say. Masks did help - though it was never a guarantee. So saying it was "useless" is totally wrong.

The mortality for CV19 is 2 per 100,000.
In Australia it is 1 per 400,000
In Africa it is 1 per 2 million.
No one in their right mind locks down the world for that.

Granted, Hawaii has had a low number of 17 deaths
from a total of 647 infections. Thus 2.6% of infections have resulted in death.
43 are still under care.

Could more succumb - of course.

Masks can be helpful, though there is no guarentee.
For some, it makes them feel better - so be it.
If a store owner requires a mask for customer - so be it.
As he would not want to be responsible for someone cathing the diease.

And telling someone that was God's will is NOT the thing to say - even if its true.


So the numbers are currently low -
I would like to ask you how important those numbers are if a relative or a close friend of yours were to pass away.
But I will not.
