False converts in the church

Today I had a chat with a woman whom was a false convert. She never made a profession of faith, and her only testimony was getting baptized when she was young. I used the law to soften her spirit and she almost came to faith in Christ, so I strongly suggested she call out to God to save her from her sin and to become a child of God.

There are false converts in the church, primarily because Repentance, sin, and hell are hardly addressed in many churches, and so people walk the isle, say the prayer, or what not, but are not really saved. Few preachers preach the Law when doing evangelism, and few also will emphasize Hell and the coming judgment. So its no wonder that few believe in these doctrines!

When talking with people I always strive to use the law to soften people to the reality of their sin, and the law often does the job. Sure many do not like to have their sin exposed because they love the darkness and so many have resisted just as a hog loves the dirt.

I am glad she was honest as after her I had a chat with a Catholic woman whom admitted to being guilty of breaking the 10 commandments, yet still loved her sin, and believed in multiple ways to God and so forth. Certainly a hard heart, but no doubt admitted to being a law breaker.

No, I don't have a problem with someone telling people how to get saved. I do have a problem with someone continually posting "so-and-so is a false convert" and "if you don't evangelize exactly the way I say, you are going to get false converts". Continually.

WOTM and Paul Washer and Ray Comfort and John MacArthur. Every day.

Hence the suggestion of getting some new material.

The Law is not the way to a soft heart. And you admitted as much when you acknowledged that in this last case the woman has a hard heart. Sharing the truths of the Bible is not a route to the softening of hearts. Sometimes maybe --but don't look for that to be your goal.

I do think that the Law is a good start before the Gospel. I had threads about this before the turn of the present decade.

John, here's a good way to remember when to use who and when to use whom.

Take that first sentence you wrote. "Today I had a chat with a woman whom was a false convert."

If you could substitute "she" in place of who/whom use "who". You wouldn't say, "Today I had a chat with a woman. Her was a false convert." If you can't use "her", then you can't use "whom".

You would say, "Today I had a chat with a woman. She was a false convert." If you can use she, you must use "who".

Rule of thumb

• When substituting for he/she - use who.
• When substituting for him/her - use whom.

The biblical "response" (if you want to call it that) is to BELIEVE the good news. To rely wholly upon Christ -----> not to simply request that God save us.

Abraham was fully assured that what God had promised, He was also able to perform. Therefore it was credited to him as righteousness (Romans 4:21-24)


Any so-called gospel which ends with man performing a ritual, that's a false gospel, brother. So yeah. False converts come from false gospels. And i was a false convert, victimized by a perverted message, the voodoo of you do.

That's really the Calvinist position. Regeneration preceding faith is a convenient "out" for them to require a works righteousness, then they can quote Philippians 1:6 out of context and say that if God really began this good work in you, then....

After going from Arminianism to Calvinism myself, i saw that both camps boiled things down to the same bottom line -----> no work = no heaven

He does add the Mosaic Law, it seems as a necessary requirement for "proud" sinners to be saved. He insists that they are under the Mosaic Law, and that we need to convict them under the Mosaic Law. Is this another gospel? By his own standard, yes. But in reality, probably not. It is unbiblical? Yes, of course it is. But I think most here know that he does not understand, and is unwilling to learn. Did Paul rebuke Peter for presenting a false gospel? No, he did not. Did he rebuke Peter? Yes, we all know that he did. But no one on this board, that I know of, has rebuked Evan for telling others of Christ. They have rebuked him for drifting into false doctrine, for not being able or willing to answer for his faith, for creating division where none existed, for relying on his books rather than scripture, for adding to Scripture, for misquoting the Bible, for being a poor steward of his finances, for trashing his wife on the BB, for texting another man's wife at work, and the list goes on. But no one has attacked the man for sharing the gospel message. This has been his one redeeming quality that many have acknowledged as they tried to lead him out of error on so many fronts.

This is one of the most heartfelt things I've read lately. Posters like you and a few other have tried to help him. I've seen it. There are a couple who are very cruel to him and it's like watching someone pick at a wound every time they post anything to him.

I think he has me on ignore. I tried again to help him with who and whom and left a reminder of how to remember it. But he hasn't responded to anything I've said to him in months.

I do agree that there are many false converts in the church but I don't think it's necessarily because of not teaching on the law and sin but instead, unregenerate hearts in an environment of loving and caring. I've seen many people go through church and play the church game but who later left when they found another social group to hang out with. Even in the most gospel teaching church there are false converts. It just happens.

But it was interesting because yesterday hubby preached on the "nones" - those who self identify with having no religion and MANY of them have come out of churches. He preached on Acts 2 and Acts 17 and in reading Acts 17, we see that Paul didn't use the law to preach in Athens but instead used their own life and story to teach them about Jesus. It IS important for us to understand our culture around us, ask questions and from the own person's reference point, give them the gospel. Not everyone will respond (realize very few came to Christ in Acts 17) but the gospel was preached anyway.

The facts are that we really don't know what Evan preaches besides what we've seen on YouTube and what he mentions here on BB, and what he writes in his letters to "false converts" and "false teachers". Namely, "YOU'RE ALL GOING TO HELL! You need to REPENT! You're ALL SINNERS! Everyone of you have broken the 10 commandments!" (All of this is true.)

But supposing someone who was not totally turned off by his approach were to ask him, "What must I do to be saved?"

Do we *really* know what Evan would say?
