Fauci ‘Didn’t Get Any Sense’ Trump Was Downplaying the Coronavirus Outbreak

Dr. Anthony Fauci is detailing the experience he had with President Donald Trump during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic amid reports of Trump downplaying the severity of the outbreak.

Fox News’ John Roberts asked Fauci on Wednesday if he got a sense Trump was or was not playing the pandemic down.

“No I didn’t. I didn’t get any sense that he was distorting anything,” Fauci said.

About 20 years, at the Great NY State fair - a hurricane (or some similary storm) came roaring into the Greater Syracuse area. The State Troopers could have told people that the hurricane was coming -and to get into buildings.

Rather, all they did was go to the outside agents and told them they needed to close down. They never stated why. Since everything was closing down - people just went inside the buildings. Had they said a hurricane was coming - it is very likely that people would have panic and just cause additional problems.

So, did the NY Troopers lie to the public? or what???

I was thinking the same thing.

I agree with President Trump's actions regarding COVID-19. But using Fauci after trying to disqualify him is questionable at best.

And let’s also say that they ridiculed people for taking cover and said it was no more dangerous than a light drizzle and that they should come back outside.

I don't agree with Fauci...once again.

It's obvious to me that the President did downplay the severity of the virus at the beginning.

It's just as obvious why. He was trying to prevent the full blown panic that eventually emptied the shelves of toilet paper.

If I said even five-year-olds understand something, it doesn’t mean their judgment is generally trustworthy. It only means in that particular case it was clear enough for five-year-olds.

The point is that it is clear enough that even Fauci can see Trump didn’t distort or downplay this.

It could still be that Trump did unwittingly repeat a distortion he got from Fauci. But Fauci is supposed to be the expert, not a five-year-old. If he were to blame Trump, saying he distorted something when in fact the information came from Fauci himself, the fallout there could be significant.
