Just to take a break from the heated "discussions". What are a few of your favorite Christmas Hymns.

O Come O Come Emmanuel has been on my heart a lot this year. Here's a version I came across today.

Great song. Not my favorite version, but still nice.

I'm a big fan of Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

Also, if we expand beyond the classic hymns, I love This is Christmas by Kutless.

Well this will ruin the hope of stopping heated discussions.

I'm partial to one we don't sing much - "Gentle Mary Laid Her Child"

The words are beautiful to me.

"Gentle Mary laid her Child lowly in a manger;
There He lay, the undefiled, to the world a Stranger:
Such a Babe in such a place, can He be the Savior?
Ask the saved of all the race who have found His favor.

Angels sang about His birth; wise men sought and found Him;
Heaven’s star shone brightly forth, glory all around Him:
Shepherds saw the wondrous sight, heard the angels singing;
All the plains were lit that night, all the hills were ringing.

Gentle Mary laid her Child lowly in a manger;
He is still the undefiled, but no more a stranger:
Son of God, of humble birth, beautiful the story;
Praise His Name in all the earth, hail the King of glory!"

Stille Nacht.

Christmas 1981 I was stationed at Ray Barracks in Friedberg, Germany. My oldest brother had been stationed in Aschaffenberg a few years before and had befriended a German family. They stayed in touch and their daughters traveled to the US to visit. Facing my first Christmas away from family I contacted my brother's friends and was invited to spend Christmas with them.

We went to the midnight Weihnachten mass at Katholisches Pfarramt in Hösbach-Bahnhof. Anja and her sister sang Stille Nacht, a family sitting behind us sang in Italian and I sang in English. Memorable.
