Favorite Christmas Song (Sacred and Secular)

Joshua Rhodes

For Christmas hymns, I'd choose Ralph Vaughan Williams' "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "Once in Royal David's City."

For Christmas Christian Songs, I'd choose Michael W. Smith's "All is Well" and David Phelps' "Joy, Joy!"

For Christmas spirituals, I'd choose "Mary's Boy Chile" and "Amen!"

For secular Christmas songs, I'd go for "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The Chipmunk Song."

Just my humble opinion. :D

I love "Do you Hear What I Hear?"

and of course, having performed in the Messiah with full orchestra and 150 voice choir, I love the entire piece and have the alto memorized for most of it.

Also "Bring the Torch Jeanette Isabella"

When I was in college, we dressed Elizabethan and formed quartets and got paid for wandering the mall and singing carols...it was great Christmas money!!!

"Bring a Torch..." is indeed a wonderful French carol. I too have made good money singing at such times.

BiR,

The Transfer is a great group - have most of their albums, now on CD though (some still on vinyl). This group is probably my favorite vocal group.

Depending on the day, it could be Riders in the Sky. They have 2 good Christmas albums as well. Talk about great close harmony.

Let's change the direction of this post.

Laet's make it favorite Christmas Album and/or Christmas video.

Album - toss up "Christmas with the Cambridge Singers" and "Chrsitmas Portrait" (The Carpenters)

Video - "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (love Linus' reading of Luke 2 -- I tear up whenever he says, "lights please"

Have a wonderful and joyous Christmas and Advent season....

Mary, Did You Know

What Child is This? (I like the way it starts in a minor key and changes to major key.)
