Nothing to do with "Ministry", but music is a defining feature as many of the thread indicate.

Try to limit to 5 your very favorite cds, tapes or records (those under 25 ignore this last category) of Movie Soundtracks and why you enjoy them.

I get to start:
1. Henry V
2. Last of the Mohicans
3. Gettysburg
4. Green Card
5. Mr. Holland's Opus

Your turn . . .

Not in any particular order. Some I have to lump in with the composer, because I like them equally.

1. Almost any composed and conducted by John Williams (Star Wars, DT, Superman, Iniana Jones, etc.)
2. Almost any composed and conducted by Tim Burton (BetelGeuse, Batman)
3. Titanic (Not the Diva's popular song.)
4. The Sound of Music
5. Evita

Aaron,

Isn't most of that music evil... ;)

Just kidding good buddy. I think that you and I have much the same tastes in music. Personally, I think Williams is probably the most talented and greatest composer alive today. I have enjoyed his Olympic Fanfares and Themes as well. Another favorite composer of mine teaches Theory at Ouchita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas...Dr. W. Francis McBeth. Not only is he a great composer but he is a wonderful person to be around. Have you ever heard any of his music?

1. Braveheart
2. Glory (Funny, two from the same composer)
3. 1776! (Still can remember lyrics after 20 years)
4. (Gasp) Jesus Christ, Superstar. (Not technically a movie soundtrack. I think the 8-track -- boy, does that date me -- was from the Broadway show, not the movie, which was truly, completely and unalterably lousy.

In no particular order:

1. "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou"

2. "Tin Cup"

3. "Paint Your Wagon" (I have no idea why)

4. "Dazed and Confused" and "Even More Dazed and Confused"

5. "Rancho Deluxe"

6. "Songcathcher"

7. "Hope Floats" (lousy movie, great soundtrack)

8. "Grateful Dawg"

9. "Pure Country" (another lousy movie. It was sad to see George Strait become a characature of himself, but there are some good songs on this soundtrack)

10. "Pulp Fiction"

11. "The Natural"

12. "Tommy" (the broadway cast album is also very good)

1.) Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone

Really? I only found out after the fact John Williams scored it. Unlike most of his work, the music to Harry Potter is unobtrusive.

My list:

 1.
John Williams, The Empire Strikes Back (the Imperial March is the most dramatic piece of music ever put on film, bar none!)

2001: A Space Odyssey: a topnotch selection of Romantic and modern "classical" music, featuring (of course) R. Wagner's amazing "Also Sprach Zarathustra" as well as the "Blue Danube" waltz and various other pieces by Kachaturian, Ligeti, and others.

Jerry Goldsmith, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: Not the instantly-recognizable themes of the first ST movie, but it has a memorable opening theme and some great musical cues.

John Williams, Star Wars: This one gets a lower score than ESB just because in the second movie, what isn't recycled is better. Nonetheless, there is that one recurring cue, the "da-daaaaaaah-da! da-daaaaaah-da!" fanfare thingy that really stands out.

John Williams, Superman: The Movie: Underappreciated, I think. But I have the new DVD release of this film, and I like to just pop it in and play the "music only" soundtrack. Shining moments include the opening fanfare of the main theme, of course, and the sweeping "Planet Krypton" theme that you hear at the first as the camera zooms in on the dome.

Honourable mention has to go to "A Knight's Tale." It's a "classic rock" soundtrack rather than an original score, but it goes a long way to set the tone of the movie (which is what the music is all about, anyway).
