This past weekend, Syracuse, NY; had a buyback program and bought 240 weapons. About 130 were handguns. There were 7 rifles and several "ghost' guns. A total of 123 people recd about $24,000.

The mayor wants to have another event.

So what are your thoughts about this program.

Gee, that seems to work out to about $100 per weapon. But to buy say a Glock 23 semi-automatic pistol will run about $530 and 50 rounds of ammo will cost about $20. Thus the buy-back would fuel obtaining weapons by means other than legal sale.

If they want guns, let them go to the next Gun Show at Market Hall in Dallas.

Were they guns used in crimes? Were they non working? Why did they go so cheap? Were they stolen guns? Will they be returned to their rightful owners? Were they missing parts? Dead beat dads leave and not take their guns with them? Were they stolen?

Probably DO NOT care - just counting on many “average” citizens giving up their guns, with the aim of eventually creating that UTOPIAN ideal of an armless society!!!!!!:Mad

Fact check-123 morons live in Syracuse. Handguns require registration. Do they check to make sure the legal owner is selling the gun? Or is that little detail not important?!

240 guns turned in at latest Syracuse gun buyback event

The event is an amnesty program, which means that police will not ask for anyone’s names or registration for the guns.
Assistant Attorney General Ed Thompson said that the program would not work without the promise of amnesty

Question? If the gun they buy turns out to have been stolen, will they contact the owner and return it, or will they destroy it anyway?

peace to you

Democrats!

If I'm not mistaken the entire city council is D - officially the Mayor is considered independent

The Mayor won election running on the Reformed Party and Independence Party
though his family has held several political offices over the years - all as Republicans.
Mayor Walsh correctly decided not to run as a Republician.
(if he ran for a County office - then being a "R" is ok!

They will destroy them, unfortunately. We do not even know that they are in working order. But they should return every stolen weapon back to their rightful owners. But they won't.
