I have heard of foot washings. I was in a camp meeting where the moderator asked all MEN OF GOD that was in the heat of a battle to come to the front and line up, then asked the other MEN OF GOD to take their COAT and wipe the shoes of the ones going thru a battle. It was a humbling experience. I don't think there was a dry eye in the tabernacle. Men were weeping as if their heart was breaking..

Prime example Brother! When and where did this happen? If my memory serves me right, I heard about this particular campmeeting.

My ! How my heart is stirred at this ! I wish there were a "graemlin" to indicate shouting in here!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like something Brother Larry Raynes would do. God all in it!

This happened in a GPA (Gospel Peachers Association) Camp Meeting. It was two or three years ago at the National GPA Camp Meeting. Dr. Tolbert Moore, Moderator. This is not far from your location. National GPA coming up in June. If you are insterested e-mail me and I will give you more on it.

I attended a Mennonite church for several years. Same-gender foot-washing was practiced there, but it was completely voluntary--anyone could opt out, but few did.

It was a moving and meaningful symbol because the people backed it up with their lives, i.e. they really cared about each other.

I believe it's a symbol of humble service to one another, specifically in the context of helping one another live pure lives--cleansing by mutual accountability.

I have never actually been in a footwashing service, but I can definitely see it's good. The addage that "Baptists tend to bury their wounded" is very shameful reputation to have, so footwashing would help to relieve the accusation in the least. Also, I believe if we would at least "footwash" our brethren spiritually, there would be much less anymosity in the church towards one another.

In Christ, Ephesians 2:14
