WASHINGTON – Fox News Channel made ratings history Thursday night with the widely watched Republican presidential primary debate in Cleveland.

More than 24 million viewers tuned in to watch the two-hour prime-time event which featured the top 10 GOP candidates in the running for the 2016 presidential nomination. That makes it the highest-rated primary debate in television history as well as the highest-rated non-sports cable telecast of all time in total viewers.

According to Nielsen Media Research, an average viewership of 24 million for one telecast is more than the combined viewers that watched the top 20 cable networks last week.

The night’s ratings also eclipsed Game 7 of the 2014 World Series which drew in an average of 23.5 million viewers.

The cable news network pulled in 7.9 million viewers in the key 25-54 demographic.

As a baseball fan I can't decide if this is good news (people are interested in learning about Republican candidates) or bad news (popularity of televised baseball games are at a low point.)

Crabby, this is in my mind a sign to the Dems that Americans are TIRED of Mr. Obama. I know I am.

They are looking for leadership. They are looking at 10 different people who will hopefully be our next leader. So, yes, they tuned in.

History shows that it is very difficult for a political party to win three presidential elections in a row. Here the Dems are trying to buck history. I do not believe there is much, if any, question about that.

I am somewhat skeptical that the GOP gained many, if any votes from the debate. In fact they may have lost some.

Having said that I do think it is far too early to get very excited or depressed about the upcoming election.

Crabby, America is TIRED of having a spineless wimp in charge of the country. And the last thing we need is Hilary "Honesty and Integrity" Clinton in charge of this country. But that is just my opinion.

Crabby, what is YOUR take on this massive ratings bonanza? Why do you think so many tuned in?
