From a Child’s Eyes

“What are you reading, Daddy?”

“The Bible.”

Pulling out Dad’s knee, “Would you read it to me?”

With one arm around the child, the father continued to read where he left off, thinking the child would soon loose interest, for he was reading from Revelation 4. But he tried to make his voice sound interesting as a child might imagine.

“And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: 7the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. 8And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”

9And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

11“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”

The child squirmed to get down to find another interest and was heard to say,
“I wonder if they had to clean up and put away their toys before bed.”

Do you have an anecdote “From a Child’s Eyes?”

As a very young child, when I first heard about the Seven Seals of Revelation, I seriously thought it was about performing circus seals.

I posted this in another thread awhile back.

As a child I watched a TV show on the passion of Jesus. It was presented as a news story. At the end, the “reporter” interviewed a Roman soldier who stated very dramatically, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”

For several years I believed the crucifixion had been televised.

Peace to you

I was told by my mother that when I was VERY young (?) I always thought that thunder was God throwing chairs around in Heaven because He was mad!

Philipp Bliss came from a very poor farming family. They moved frequently, and typical of the poor, shoes were a luxury.

He was so very shy and scared especially on the first day he got to attend a formal school.

He had never before attended a real school, and would rarely get the chance.
So, he knew the children would have shoes, and that they would know things that he did not.
At least that is what he told himself and convinced himself.

As he sat and barely raised his head to look around, the teacher, Miss Murphy, sat down before the class to begin the lessons.

He heard her voice, calming, firm, soft, and kind.

She, as all school classroom teachers did, she began each day by reading from the Bible.

She explained that children were to memorize the 23 Psalm, and she would read it to them.

Philipp listened and was greatly comforted, for in his childhood mind he heard Miss Murphy say, "Surely good Miss Murphy shall follow me all the days of my life".

Philipp went on to excel in very little formal schooling.

Learning at the home, later to thrive in the career and die beside his wife on the cold winter night a few days after Christmas - December 29, 1876, Ashtabula, Ohio.

You can read a short Biography of Philipp here (and learn why he changed his name): Philip P. Bliss American gospel song writer biography - Christian Biography Resources

Decades later, two very well-known gospel songwriters, John Peterson and (my friend) Al Smith collaborated together to put this little song from concept to print.
"Surely Goodness and Mercy"

Amazing how one scared little boy can have had a great influence on my life.
