Full Scale Invasion by Israel Possible

Israel has mainly limited itself to attacks in Lebanon from the air and sea, reluctant to send in ground troops on terrain dominated by Hezbollah.

But an Israeli army spokesman refused to rule out the possibility of a full-scale invasion. Israel broadcast warnings Wednesday into south Lebanon, telling civilians south of the Litani River to "leave their areas immediately for their own safety" _ a possible prelude to a larger ground operation.
"There is a possibility _ all our options are open. At the moment, it's a very limited, specific incursion but all options remain open," Capt. Jacob Dallal, an Israeli army spokesman, told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

I've heard nothing about carpet bombing the Baaka Valley - the nest, stronghold of Hezbollah (and others) training camps, drug trafficking from Afghanistan through Iraq to the West (which partly finances Hezbollah and al Qaeda operations), and which has been talked about in the past but there is nothing spoken of it now during the present time. I wonder why taking out those operations isn't on the radar screen right now. Seems like a perfect opportunity to do something about the Baaka Valley, but everyone is silent on the issue. Can't help but wonder why.

The Lebanese Defense Minister is now threatening to send their legit military down to fight with Hezbollah if Israel invades southern Lebanon. This is most unfortunate that all those Lebanese soldiers are going to have to die.

LadyEagle, I'm not trying to say you are wrong here, there is a lot of truth in the danger of landmines. I just want to mention that with today's modern warfare equipment the landmines will only slow the Israelis down a bit, but not be much of a danger at all. If someone does gets hurt by a landmine it is usually because of lack of attention to what they are doing; but, then all warfare requires the soldier to be extremely alert to the dangers surrounding them.

Israeli soldiers would be second only to our soldiers in a ground invasion (and possibly as good or better depending on experience); I wouldn't worry too much about this issue.

The biggest danger of all ground assaults into occupied territory is from snipers or gorilla fighters (today called "assymetrical warfare") and Israeli ground troops are already experts at this.

Let's put it this way, if I were to be an Arab and Israeli told me to get out of the area--

Well, its like the old joke. There's a bear on the mountain and two hikers. One hiker hurriedly putting on his running shoes and the other yells "What in the world are you doing--do you think that you can out run that bear even with running shoes?" The hiker putting on the running shoes answered, "No, all I have to do is out run YOU." :thumbs:

Actually, the joke has little to do with the situation, but in reality Israel will kill everybody that even points a stick at them. But, then again, these gorilla fighters have a different mind-set than we do and they may fight to the death even though it gains the Arabs very much in the fight against Israel.

My computer rebooted before I got this posted. LadyEagle, the rest of your post is exactly correct. It would be ideal to attack the terrorists from the origins; but, in reality it is somewhat of a problem.

Israel does not have the capability of carpet bombing like we did. They have to rely on surgical strikes to make their limited conventional bombs count. They do have a lot of bombs, but not the capability to keep building them as the war builds up, nor do they have the B-52's to carry large loads.

The second problem is to hit the REAL targets will require overflight of other Arab countries including Jordan and Saudia Arabia, neither of which will allow this. They did get away with it when they took Iraq's reactor out, but that was a single strike with a few planes. A long flight requiring refueling to Iran would be almost impossible. Iran also has the latest technology in air-superiority, so Israel is better off playing defensive than offensive.

If the United States had any guts we would help Israel by striking Iran and Syria for a multiple of reasons, including threatening to build nukes. But, after Iraq, it won't happen. Israel will be able to handle this on their own, but it will take longer and yes, you are right, the terrorists will continue, and continue, and continue. Sad isn't it? :tear: (and all of this while Israel catches the blame for striking into a country that started the whole thing and is now claiming to use their own army to help the terrorists attack Israel. Israel will stomp them, but their minds don't work the way ours do.

All we can hope out of this is that Israel does get rid of most of the fightining power of the terrorists in Lebanon. Sometimes you have to kill one ant-hill at a time.

I'm praying that Israel will be so victorious that all the world will see that God is fighting for her. I'm praying the islamofascists will have such terror struck in their hearts that their hearts will stop with fright. I'm also praying their missiles will fall back down upon their heads and their AK-47s will jam and their bombs will blow up on themselves if their hearts don't fail first.
