For the record:

I did not intend to allude that tinytim was a "nutcase". Of course I don't think any thing of the sort.

TT I have a great deal of personal respect for you and your work.

AF, I'm a bit surprised by your dictionary.com offerring. You know that the KJV is not "plain" English that can be found in just any dictionary. Please show us the 1828 Webster's definition, or an equivalent. Thanks

In my opinion the KJV is the definition of English. That, however, is not at issue. The accusation is that the KJV is (in this case) mistranslated and misleading.

Evidence that it is not mistranslated may be found in the many uses of "daughter" or "son" where it is clear (from context) that an indirect relationship is indicated.

Evidence that it is not misleading may be found in a current dictionary.

I don't use Webster's dictionary since it doesn't recognize English as spoken South of the Mason-Dixon Line. I recommend the American Heritage or the Oxford English dictionary.

To address your concerns, however, please consider usage citations from the Oxford English Dictionary entry below. The earliest are mostly Bible related.

From OED.com entry for daughter:

2. transf. a. A female descendant; a female member of a family, race, etc.; a woman in relation to her native country or place. (Cf. CHILD 9.)

c1000 Ags. Gosp. John xii. 15 Ne ondræd u Siones dohtor. c1160 Hatton G. ibid., Ne on-dræd u e Syones dohter. 1382 WYCLIF Judg. xiv. 1 A womman of the doutris of Philistien. 1382 Luke xiii. 16 This doutre of Abraham. Ibid. xxiii. 28 Doutris of Jerusalem. 1667 MILTON P.L. I. 453 The Love-tale Infected Sions daughters with like heat. 1812 BYRON Ch. Har. II. lxxxi, Danced on the shore the daughters of the land. 1833 TENNYSON Lady Clara Vere de Vere i, The daughter of a hundred Earls. 1850 In Mem. Concl. ii, A daughter of our house. 1855 Brook 69 A daughter of our meadows.

note: transf. = transferred sense.

My conclusion is that this word usage hasn't changed for 1000 years.

The NIV is the Word of God .

The MV's do not water-down the great doctrines of the Bible .

Not only the KJV , but the MV's are the Word of God .

Amen, Brother Rippon -- Teach it!

Okay, these are now the newly revised propositions of Pastor Bob .

The NIV claims to be the Word of God .

The MV's omit verses that declare the great doctrines of the Bible .

Not only the KJV, but other faithful translations of the Received Text are the Word of God.
Thank you, my friend. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Since Brother Ed advocates teaching over preaching, I can no longer, and not sure if I ever did, take anything he says seriously.

Preach:
1: to deliver a sermon
2: to urge acceptance or abandonment of an idea or course of action; specifically : to exhort in an officious or tiresome manner.

Seems prreaching has teaching covered, it's just this teaching that isn't preaching that causes the mind to be encouraged to slumber.

I Corinthians 15:34
Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Ephesians 5:14
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Dontcha just love PREACHING!

I think this explains translation improprieties quite well Pastor Bob. If one does not like what is written then make it to suit their desire. Wow, what a novel idea.

Your premesis is wrong, your conclusion likely will be wrong also.

Teaching and Preaching are co-equal functions of the Man of God
(simile: as a two barrel shot gun).

Example of Jesus:

Matthew 4:23 (KJV1611 Edition):
And Iesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their Synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdome, and healing all maner of sickenesse, and all maner of disease among the people.

Example of Paul:

Acts 28:30-31 (KJV1611 Edition): And Paul dwelt two whole yeeres in his owne hired house, and receiued all that came in vnto him,
31 Preaching the kingdome of God, and teaching those things which concerne the Lord Iesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

In answer to the OP:

Trying to defend every choice of words of a translation will always end in disappointment, yes even with the KJV.

In fact the very 1st verse of the KJV has:

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

When in fact the Hebrew has the word "heaven" as dual plural.

NIV Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

I think we have covered the OP, but the teaching/preaching squabble continues despite a previous notice.

That may very well be a topic for another thread, but not here for it is closed.
