George Takei on gay marriage

I watched 5 minutes of the Last Word on MSNBC tonight, that is all it takes usually to gather enough crazy material for a good post.

George Takei (Mr. Sulu) was on the show and was pontificating about same sex marriage. He said it was wrong that laws didn't recognize same sex partners when it comes to who receives an estate after the death of a partner. He used an actual stroy of two partners that lived together 10 years, one died and the entire estate went to the dead partners brother instead of the other partner. They went on how sad this was that the law is whacked so we need to recognize marriage between gays to remedy this.

My question to George would be why didn't the couple draw up a will designating who gets the estate? Isn't that simple? These liberals try to use sad stories to gain public support without thinking it through. I don't care if a gay man leaves his whole estate to his gay partner.

The left always seems to use sad stories or a crisis to pull the heart strings of weak minded Americans, just as in gun control agendas.

Am I wrong here?

I thought BB rules did not allow discussions about human sexuality, regardless of the type. There was just a warning given on a thread regarding this and the Rick Warren ministry. If the threads are allowed to continue, why are specific posts within the subject deleted?

Here is the policy. "Please note that according to the Baptist Board User Agreement and/or BB Posting Rules no threads dealing with human sexuality will be allowed in an open public forum. If you feel the need to discuss any subject matter dealing with human sexuality the proper and only permissible place to do so is in either the BB Private Men's Forum or the BB Private Women's Forum depending on the gender of the person starting the thread."

This does not say discussing the actual act, it says no threads dealing with human sexuality.

Selective enforcement?

Yes, Arbo, I had a comment in this thread to indirectly point out this, and the whole post was removed without an edit comment. If a thread is allowed to continue against their own policy, then IMO, any comment within the thread is fair game.

The topic here is the legal status of g@y marriage and is not a discussion of sexu@lity. I reported the comment that was deleted because it was a post referring to the sexu@lity of the issue and not the legal status of g@y marriage.

I wonder how many mindless Americans will see stuff like this and think that gay marriage is the answer to our laws ?

You are absolutely right.

People have left their fortunes to their cats.
Countless numbers of people have given power of attorney to others.
People can choose the executor of their estates.
Life insurance policies and other similar items require a beneficiary designation.
etc. & etc.

If I want what little that's left when I die to go to specific individuals, it's my responsibility to put my desires in writing. If I don't, the law of the land determines disposition.

Sexual orientation has nothing to do with following through on that personal responsibility.

It seems that PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY is becoming a thing of the past in all aspects of our lives. The list of "excuses" for not being personally responsible seems to be growing longer and longer.

After being discussed in the admin forum it has been determined that this type of thread is not in violation of the above policy. The policy is intended to stop any discussion of, as one admin put it 'the nuts and bolts of sexu@lity, even in passing or in jest.'

Since this topic is being discussed in other threads there is no need to reopen this one.

BTW - we can help avoid bot intervention by replacing a letter in any word associated with sexu@lity with number or symbol. For example - g@y, h0mosexual, sexu@l.
