German co-pilot was muslim convert

The voice recorder from the cockpit is silent. The only thing being heard is Lubitz’s breathing. The pattern for virtually all Islamic terrorist actions is to yell out "Allah Akbar". The absence of such a cry in this instance is telling.

Nobody yelled it at the Boston Bombing, either.

Look, I'm not taking the side of the article, it's exactly what you say it is, poorly written, and speculative. I'm just saying….

1, it is a German story.
2, it is entirely plausible.

One thing we can be sure of...

If the story is true, the corrupt old media will be slow to report it, if at all. They are far too thoroughly indoctrinated.

All we will have for awhile is whatever independent news sources can give us.

Stay tuned.

Carpro typically doesn't post crap like this.

Sometimes, I'll post a story just to see what comments it brings. Sometimes I'll even play the devil's advocate to stir a discussion.

Whether I believe it or not is immaterial. Is it possible, or possibly even plausible? I believe, in this case, it is.

With the media we have today, such stories have to be examined. They have their own agenda and will often hide the truth.

BTW, I'm enjoying the discussion.

All those words just to admit the fact you are trolling. We can have a discussion without posting clickbait conspiracy theory garbage. Yes, we have to be careful with the media. You just proved how easy it is to fall for their agenda.

I agree with all of this Bro. Curtis. The only thing I have a problem with these days is the constant need to classify everything as an act of terror or assume it is Islamic terrorism. We are willfully allowing them to win the propaganda war with this stuff. I won't be a party to it.

It could be.

UoT, ITL, Zaac, I like you guys enough, but what if this turns out to be true ? I see more and more stories pointing out that this guy was planning something.

Curtis, I don't have a problem with it being true if it is. But you know sometimes how you just get one of those feelings? This is one of those times for me.

Even if he were a recent convert, does that immediately mean that's why he did what he did? That's the impression it seems like is trying to be made so that they could say they now have their 9/11.

If you say so.

At least you didn't lie about what I said this time. Maybe you're making progress. That would be a good thing.

That's funny because the last time you accused me of lying (one of the many tactics you use when you dig yourself a whole like this) a simple dictionary/thesaurus proved me right and you wrong. Instead of eating the crow you deserved you snuck away to avoid owning up to it. Unfortunately, you are not making progress.

Don't get mad at me because your thread got picked to shreds and then you tried to play it off with some excuse that you are just trying to facilitate discussion. Stop helping the enemy win the propaganda war with this nonsense.

The source of this "breaking story."

http://antiviral.gawker.com/the-evidence-that-the-germanwings-copilot-was-muslim-is-1694063626

"PI" is a site called Politically Incorrect News, which is not exactly Der Spiegel, and they didn't even run a story about Lubitz's supposed conversion to Islam. That story came from PI-News blogger Michael Mannheimer's personal website, where he put together the following information:

  • Lubitz trained as a pilot in Bremen, which is also the home of a mosque that was investigated in December for alleged supporting the Islamic State. (This is true, according to Der Spiegel.)
  • Lubitz took a few months off at one point before returning to work and getting recertified to fly. (This is also true: Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr confirmed that Lubitz "took a break in his training six years ago. Then he did the tests again. And he was deemed fit to fly.")
From these two data points—a mosque recently under investigation and a break Lubitz took six years ago—Mannheimer concluded (and this is roughly translated from the German by Google): "Probably Lubitz converted to Islam during this interruption."

Must be some reporting with an agenda and one that plays very fast and loose with the truth.

Hometown pastor says community stands by co-pilot, family

MONTABAUR, Germany (AP) -- The pastor of the Lutheran church in Andreas Lubitz's hometown said Sunday that the community stands by him and his family, despite the fact that prosecutors blame the 27-year-old co-pilot for causing the plane crash that killed 150 people in southern France.
The town of Montabaur has been rattled by the revelation that Lubitz, who first learned to fly at a nearby glider club, may have intentionally caused Tuesday's crash of Germanwings Flight 9525.
"For us, it makes it particularly difficult that the only victim from Montabaur is suspected to have caused this tragedy, this crash - although this has not been finally confirmed, but a lot is indicating that - and we have to face this," pastor Michael Dietrich said.

This kind of news reporting preys on those that have a predetermined mindset on a particular issue. They essentially manufacture news that they know people want to hear and hope that confirmation bias will protect them from scrutiny. Unfortunately, as we can see in this thread...it works all to well.

Your concern for the mindset of others is touching...and phony as a $3 bill.

Sounds to me like you kinda think you're better and smarter than a lot of people.

Of course, we know that's not true or you wouldn't feel the need to mis-characterize (spin or lie about) others posts so often.

You can redirect your anger at me all you want but you posted this thread and several other people besides me have called you on the source. What you take away from this discussion is up to you. You can learn from it and move on or you can continue to be mad at me and try to attack me with all of these trumped up accusations of lying.

Does anybody not named Carpro think that I lie about others post and have any examples of this? He says it a lot but the examples aren't there.

WOW! This was the source? SMH.

Actually, AntiViral is a blog in the Kinja family of blogs. Their task is to debunk fake email, YouTube, and Twitter stories that blow up and go "viral". I'll sometimes check out other Kinja blogs like LifeHacker, Gizmodo, and IO9 blogs. (Can be accessed by the 3 bar menu in the upper left hand of the AntiViral page.

Yeah, parent organization is Gawker media. I love IO9 and Deadspin. The Gawker blogs have done some brilliant long form investigative journalism over the years, the Penn State coverage was fantastic.

They also excel in snark and sarcasm but they can buckle down when they need to.
