Katrina Should be A Lesson To US on Global Warming

Seems like everything is President Bush's fault. One day after Katrina hammered the Gulf Coast, German commentators are laying into the US for its stubborn attitude to global warming and Kyoto.

Fun-loving New Orleans, now a disaster area.
Hurricane Katrina is big news for German commentators, whatever their ilk. For some, the powerful storm which slammed the Gulf Coast on Monday, is a symbol of the sort of environmental terrors awaiting the world thanks to global warming and proof positive that America needs to quickly reverse its policy of playing down climate change. For the more conservative, it is simply another regrettable natural catastrophe.

One day they're going to say Hitler's birth was a freak accident caused by Bush's forthcoming birth.

What about the strong hurricanes from many years ago? Around here the older folks remember well Hurricane Hazel (1954). My grandmother would tell stories about that thing (a cat4 storm). There was also the 1935 Florida Keys hurricane (cat 5), Camille (cat 5), the 1919 Florida Keys/Texas Hurricane (cat 4), Donna (cat 4), the 1900 Galveston Texas Hurricane (cat 4)? All of these are either cat. 4 or 5. I doubt Bush or global warming had anything to do with those! Maybe these people in Germany should do some research before they speak on something? Seems like a good idea to me. It took me just seconds to get the information from the National Hurricane Center.

From what I understand these things go in cycles.

These were all caused by a reverse "Butterfly Effect". The impending birth of Bush's parents, which would lead to his later birth, caused all of those storms.

Obviously, anything bad that occurs from the time of his birth until Christ will naturally be Bush's fault as well.

You guys need to quit giving him a free pass. Bush is Satan. Can't you see it by all of these evil things he is causing? :eek:

Seriously, though, even if one could prove that the industrial age has caused the global warming cycle that is happening, President Bush has only been in office for a little over 4.5 years. If his administration had convinced the Congress to implement Draconian environmental measures back in 2001 that would not have had any impact in only four years.

If mankind is responsible to some extent for global warming it is the result of several hundred years of human activity. Thus, if we are able to reverse some this alleged impact, I doubt we will know about it for another 50-75 years.

Our German "friends", while blaming Bush, seem to forget the U.S. Senate voted against the Kyoto Protocol in it's current form by a vote of 95-0. During the Clinton Administration, no less.

Agree. Profoundly put also.

Everytime I have been to New Orleans, it smells like the bottom of a dumpster. Not much fun to love in steamy 95 degree heat at 9 pm with that smell wafting through the air.

I was wondering when people were going to start the blame game. Last I heard, one time in Science class...that hurricanes were caused by hot and cold fronts basically colliding. Hmmm.
