as long as it is not contrary to God's word...if you have the gift of teaching then yes you should teach a Woman's Sunday school class or Bible study...and the Holy Spirit will never call anyone on be an "Evangelist" when it does not line up with His word....he has called us to evangelize but not to be an "Evangelist" big big difference....it sounds like you might be looking for someone to agree with the fact that a woman can be "an Evangelist", please look up the verses quoted in my earlier post or other posts, when in doubt, always search God's Word..I hope you don't think I'm answering in a mean spirit because there are a whole lot of verses that require more knowledge to interprit than I have, but I believe these verses are very very hard to see any other meaning... Thank You

What amazes me is that Helen regularly teaches here at BaptistBoard.com and no one who is opposed to women teaching has any problem with it... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I always appreciate what she has to say, even though I find myself disagreeing with about 35% of it. She makes me reconsider my views and often provides unconventional insights!

</font>[/QUOTE]You know, I have not figured that one out, either.
I am glad she is here, though. Either there is a lot of vigorous behind the scenes discussion, or people here opposed to women teaching separate church activity from ANY other activity, including the BB.

There are at least two stories of women evangelizing. John chapter 4 tells of an early woman evangelist, the Samaritan woman. Her testimony won her village to the Lord. Probably today, she would be told that she couldn't do it.

    The disciples reponded:
JN 4:27 Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, "What do you want?" or "Why are you talking with her?"

Also, Mary Magdalene and other women went to tell the good news of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

LK 24:9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. [10] It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. [11] But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.

Jesus was glad to allow women to own the message, and to proclaim it.

The Apostle Paul did have some concerns in the early church about women, because he understood that Eve was deceived. But I do think that Paul has been misunderstood. I think if we could talk to Paul today, he would be very surprised at how his words have been used to stifle the ministry of women.

Luke relates this about the daughters of Philip:
AC 21:7 We continued our voyage from Tyre and landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and stayed with them for a day. [8] Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. [9] He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

In the first two cases, the male disciples of Jesus could not understand how Jesus was relating to women. I think it is the same today.

If a woman is gifted and called by the Lord Jesus, then she needs to do the work she is called to. She will need to find encouragement to do so, and this encouragement will not likely be found in a Baptist chruch.

I think you mean "Southern Baptist" church. The American Baptist Church, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and Alliance of Baptists all have women serving (with much affirmation and support) as pastors.

    Joshua,
Thank you for the correction. Yes, I did mean the SBC, of which I am currently a member.

has the SBC abolished the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong offerings yet (since being women, what they did was against the will of God ;) )?

What Lottie Moon and other missionary women did was technically not against the will of God.
If they were standing in a pulpit in an SBC church in the United States, then they would need to be ducking for cover.
But since what they did was in foreign lands, there is an exclusionary statement somewhere in the Book of 1st Opinions that covers them.

Strange, isn't it. They could go to foreign lands and win converts for Jesus, and start churches, and lead churches, but they could not do the same in most Baptist settings in the U.S.

Women can evangelize...but they cannot teach or lead men...women are not to usurp authority over a man,nor can women be elders,pastors...from the bible's standpoint. There is a place and appropriate time for women to teach and or evangelize,it just needs to be in line with scripture.

I'm curious exactly how Armstrong and Moon could evangelize without preaching or teaching or leading. Lets face it, folks, they led, preached and taught men, and brought MEN to Christ. And they were right to do so-that's why we honor them. That what they did is "politically incorrect" with TODAY'S SBC is just another "inerrancy" they'll have to explain away with mental gymnastics. And it won't work.

  12. I think that people should be very very careful at second guessing GOD.

If I'm not correct - please correct.

    1) Matthew 28:19-20 tells every Christian their job description.

    2) A Disciple is a follower of Christ. (Which is not gender specific)

    3) Evangelism is the spreading of the GOSPEL. It should also involve discipleship. If it is GODS will. (One planted, One watered, But God gave the increase.

    4) Although I may know what the Bible says, I have to distinguish what dispensation we are talking about. If I understand correctly - in the days that the Bible was written, Women were considered to be on the same scale as animals, considered to be property! But still some women were blessed by God to carry out ministry, as he decreed.

    5) In Hebrews chapter 11, there is a small phrase that says "and others" speaking about women. These are not known to us by name, but God knows their name. And they had some terrible things done to them and their families, because of Faith in Jesus Christ.

    6) God is not the author of confusion, I think we need to seriously ask ourselves, 'Who are we to know the mind of GOD' If God can use a donkey to bring conviction. Can He not use anyone.

I don't find a "gift of evangelism" in Scipture. I do see where God gave evangelists, however.

    "Dr. Bob Griffin
God can gift a woman as well as a man to do anything He chooses.

But He will not violate His Word. When He gives rules, He will abide by them. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

Just recognize that the church position of "evangelist" and the Spiritual gift of "evangelism" are two, often vastly different things. Don't assume one relates to the other in any way! "

WELL SAID. IT IS NOT OUR OPINION OR OUR FEELING THAT MATTERS BUT WHAT THE WORD OF GOD SAID!
