Gilligans Isle

If they made a movie today, it would be modernized.
1. The skipper and Gilligan would be lovers.
2. The rich guy's wife would be "having an affair" with the Professor.
3. Her husband would be "having an affair" with the actress"-- the only one he would consider to be in his status as a wealthy man since he was a snob.
4. Mary Ann would be jealous of everyone and start killing off the other people. There would be other people getting stranded there so that she would have an endless supply of victims.
5. The Professor, being the smartest person there, would have to solve the crimes before they were all dead.
6. Everyone would be using all kinds of filthy language.
It was great having nice clean shows to watch decades ago, but now they have to put all kinds of filth in them in an effort to make them more realistic. I used to watch TV to escape reality, but now TV is too much like reality. It has become way too boring. Good clean family shows are a thing of the past--unless you only watch Disney, and I'm not too sure about some of those. Since Disney died, others have tried to change the Disney image for the worse.

What's really interesting is that every single one of the surviving members of the original cast of the Dukes of Hazzard refused to be involved with the movie versions because the movie versions were too raunchy.
Same with the movie version of the Beverly Hillbillies. Buddy Ebsen did a small cameo, but later stated that he regretted it when he saw that the movie version included so much sexual innuendo.
Even Mr. T has come out to say that he pities the fools who let their children go see the new movie version of the A Team.
As for what you said about Disney, we have a pretty large collection of Disney movies (granted, most of them are pre-1980) and they're very family friendly.
The Castaway Cowboy and One Little Indian are two of our favorites.

This doesn't sound like a comedy. Why would anybody watch this version of "Gilligan's Island"?
I wouldn't, but have you watched TV lately and seen how raunchy it's getting? Homosexuality is getting used more and more on TV and not criticized. The profanity is getting worse all the time. There's the constant use of SOB, God's name, and the name of Jesus Christ. I started one TV movie and quickly deleted it (I record everything I might want to watch) when during the first few minutes, one guy used God's name in vain and used the MF phrase all in one sentence.
Preachers and any Christian are almost always portrayed as a sex fiend, sadist, unloving hypocrite, cold-blooded killer quoting scripture as he kills the "sinners" (I've seen that on TV), or a preacher father who rejects his daughter because she gets pregnant without getting married first. When my 15-year-old got pregnant at 15, I simply told her it made me disappointed in her, but that I didn't love her any less. However, Hollywood portrays ALL Christians as not mentally all there.
Also, janitors are always shown as severely mentally handicapped and barely able to function. I was a janitor for nearly 30 years and knew many very intelligent janitors and resent such generalization of janitors. I never once met one who was anything like what TV portrays them.
I have no doubt that they would use all or much of what I said and somehow try to make it funny. Hollywood doesn't care about anything except ratings, and people these days love sex, profanity, and violence in their movies and TV shows. Not all of us, of course, but enough so that that is the way TV is going. Before long there won't be anything fit to watch. I said not too long ago that it wouldn't be long before some used the "F" word on TV, and sure enough, someone did.
Jon-Marc is exactly on target.
Today's remakes of older tv show and movies are full of all kinds of sexual material.
Consider these:
The Brady Bunch movies - sexual content and "comedy" for the brain dead
The Flintstones - homosexual content and "comedy" for the brain dead
Scooby Doo movies - homosexual content and constant references to marijuana and implications about why Scooby and his hippie friend alway had the munchies
Remakes of children's programming and older programming is awful. Both in failed attempts at cerebral humor and in too much mature, albeit veiled, content.
I wouldn't waste my brain cells on them.
We know exactly what the new Gilligan's Island movie would be about. It wouldn't be pleasant.

CC, you know that the secular world would find that hilarious. I think you are aware of that. We wouldn't, of course.

I get the point that Jon-Marc is attempting to make. However, the only thing that the movie that Jon-Marc described has in common with Gilligan's Island is that it uses characters from the show. It appears that Jon has come up with a movie that would be something like CSI meets Gilligan's Island.
Huh??? #1, Gilligan's Island was a comedy. This has nothing to do with being a comedy. #2, this Mary Ann is completely different from the Mary Ann on the original TV show. You can't just rewrite the character just because you want a jumping off point to criticize Hollywood/television/American society/the world.
Consider the trash that is the Dukes of Hazzard movie. They didn't rewrite the characters into somebody completely different. Daisy Duke in the TV show wore bikinis and short shorts and was rather manipulative. Daisy Duke in the movie wasn't a whole lot different.
You're going to criticize The Brady Bunch movies, The Flintstone movies and Scooby Doo movies as having "brain dead comedy"?
Have you watched The Brady Bunch TV shows as an adult? What's funny about them? Without the laugh track, would you really know where the jokes were?
Have you watched The Flintstones as an adult? I have. My kids watched the show on Boomerang all the time until I told them they weren't allowed to watch it anymore. Unfunny. Not interesting. Not worth their time.
As far as Scooby goes, you almost act surprised that there were references to Scooby and Shaggy smoking marijuana. I don't understand the surprise. The movie brought nothing to the table that wasn't already there.
I'm pretty sure that none of us would enjoy a new version of Gilligan's Island. But I disagree completely with Jon-Marc's rendition of it as if that were something that somebody would produce.
