Changed my mind ...
Not brown shirts' hat but ...
Marines do not wear hats. They wear covers. And this shows the idiocy of liberalism.
I just hope they make the threads deep enough so the new cover doesn't blow off your Jarhead. Ooh Rah!
I was thinking more along the lines of Claude Rains in Casablanca.
What I see is a move in the Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force to dress uniforms which are just that dress uniforms. Thus, the move to pre-WW1 blue for the Army. The Air Force has a proposed uniform modeled on the uniform worn by "Hap" Arnold. In this case the move is away from the "bus drivers" style of cover.
Still looks like the French gendarmes, even if they have worn one like it before.
The article further notes the hat is in the proposal stage and has not been adopted. The controversial covers have been dubbed the “Dan Daly” hat, after a World War I sergeant from Long Island who twice won the Medal of Honor. But some Marines love the old hat, which has been in use since 1922 and think the new hat is a glorified “porter’s cap.” The new Daly model is based on a style the Marines used from 1904 to 1918
This is a picture of then SMaj H.L. Hulbert (field commissoned to CAPT) c. 1917. Note his cover looks to be the cover the proposed cover is modeled on.
As for the campaign hat, it's still worn by DIs. But it's always been worn with utility\field\undress greens, never with dress blues.
Yeup, I was right this from the complete NY Post article:The article further notes the hat is in the proposal stage and has not been adopted.
But this is also in the article ...Yeup, I was right this from the complete NY Post article:The article further notes the hat is in the proposal stage and has not been adopted.
The Post said:“The Marine Corps is being ‘encouraged’ by DoD to standardize on a unisex/universal dress and service cap,” Marine brass noted in an internal memo obtained by The Post.
Most male Marines don't like the "unisex" look, but given Amos has the final say, it's likely going to be more than just "a proposal."Marines have until Friday [Note: that's today] to cast their votes on whether to adopt them or keep the old hat with modifications. Marine Corps head Gen. James Amos will make the final decision.
Done deal.FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. --
Recent headlines in the media have created confusion regarding a Marine Corps uniform item, the male dress cover. Some in the media have implied that the President of the United States directed a change in this dress cover.
Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos said, “the President in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover.”
While the Marine Corps Uniform Board is currently looking for a new cover, or cap, for female Marines because the current manufacturer is going out of business, there is no intent to change the current male Marine dress cover.
A survey released by the Marine Corps Uniform Board eliciting input from Marines in regard to uniform items, sought opinions about the “Dan Daly-style” cover.
“I’m appalled that the Department of Defense finds that gender neutral uniforms is their priority right now," Duff said. "Meanwhile we aren’t able to pay the death benefits of our marines and soldiers killed on the battlefield last week during the shutdown.”

A proposal like this is not an instananeous proposition. It tkaes longer than the current food fight for something like this make it to this stage. I would hazard it was first conceived in late 2012.
I like em! They'll give the Marines a more international flair like the UN blue patch and berets did for the Army. Might as well look the part of a "global force for good" if you're going to be one.
