Great theologian Rick Warren said on FOX....

COLMES: What about — what does it say for all those people who do not accept Christ as their personal savior?

WARREN: I'm saying that this is the perfect time to open their life, to give it a chance. I'd say give him a 60-day trial.

another line...

WARREN:
I don't care whether you're Baptist, Buddhist, Mormon, Methodist, Jewish, Muslim, or no religion at all. Jesus Christ still loves you.

How does this guy have a following in the church?

I heard that exchange on Hannity and Colmes. This is a perfect example of the false Gospel that Warren is expounding. Those on the General Baptist Discussion Forum in which defensive comments were made about Warrens Book and his Gospel should read the above and defend it if possible.

Warren, as so many do today, take Salvation out of the hands of God and make it the work of man. Give Jesus Christ a 60 day trial; blasphemy!

So... what's wrong with his statement. Seriously.

Or this.

Please enlighten me.

No one can take ANYTHING out of the hands of God... at least the God described in the Bible.

He is simply offering an invitation to respond to the Spirit, Who is potentially working in the hearts of his hearers. God is still initiating everything.

Give Jesus Christ a 60 day trial; blasphemy!
Please explain.

Does RW ever talk about sin and it's consequences? How about hell?

I heard him say that Jesus came to "communicate" with us (Moody radio).

Give Jesus a 60 day trial. This is getting to sound like a quizz show on the telly where one selects Door One, Door Two or Door Three.

The elect of God are called and when they are called they respond as evidenced in so many scriptures.

I find this idea unfathomable!

Cheers,

Jim

I have never heard him talk about it. I am not saying he never has inside his church, but since he is blessed with the opportunity to reach millions of others outside his church, it would be nice if he took full advantage of those opportunities. Of course the way things are nowadays one doesn't get as many invites on national TV shows if he comes out clearly against mans sin.

I haven't heard him talk about it either. I've seen him on various TV shows plus I read about half of The Purpose Driven Life and didn't see anything in it about sin either. I was only able to read half of it because I couldn't stand any more than that. The cut a paste job he did with pieces of scripture taken (out of context) from a zillion different Bible versions to build his doctrine was more than I could take.

The Almighty God of the universe is not subject to a "trial" run by His creation.

Jesus is God!! Jesus is not a potential savior that is to be put on "probation" until and unless He performs to satisfy the whims of a worm.

It demonstrates a lack of understanding of the reverence that should always be associated with how we speak of and approach Almighty God.

It gives the false impression that what you believe doesn't matter. It gives the false impression there is no difference in doctrine between Mormons (not Christians) and Christian denominations of Baptist and Methodist. It gives the false impression that God doesn't care what you believe or if you don't believe in Him at all.

Since all are mentioned together, it gives the false impression that every belief mentioned has equal worth before God.

His statements undermine the efforts of Christians to enlighten the world to the truth of the One and only Hope for salvation in the world.

Other than that, I have nothing against what he said.

peace to you:praying:

Is that it?

I'm thinking through what everyone has said, but I haven't heard anything particularly convincing yet. When I have a bit of time I will respond to what has already has been said.

Thanks!

I have to say....

I have been impressed that RW supporters have not come to defend him on this one. Maybe they are starting to see what others have seen for a while.

Already a thread on this, but in context, I believe he was equating God's Gift to mankind with Christmas gifts we give each other. The metaphor is alluding to stores' return policy of 60 days. It was an attempt to be a little too "relevant", IMO...but hardly worthy of the attacks he has received over it. No different than what many calvinist and non cal pastors say when they ask the congregation to: "Give God a chance. Even if you don't believe in a God, tell Him that."

Hardly. Anyone can pull a quote out of context.

Must be patting yourself on the back for starting a thread trying to tear a brother in Christ down, though

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know you are My disciples if you love one another"

From his site. What here don't you agree with?

About God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

About Man

Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God´s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates man from God. Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2

About Eternity

Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence. John 3:16; John 2:25; John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; 1 John 5:11-12; Matthew 25:31-46

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven´s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords. Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

About Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God´s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin´s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26;
Romans 5:1

About Eternal Security

Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security. John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

About Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:1

About The Bible

The Bible is God´s word to all men. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)

Are they part of the world? If so, Jesus Christ loves them. It's your theology that has issue with this, not Scripture.
How does this guy have a following in the church?
See the reply to Amy. I know it's the new "in" thing amongst Christians to bash Rick Warren, but I will not partake in the murdering of this man by his brothers and sisters.

then again..I could be wrong.

I just finished reading his The Purpose of Christmas. Let's say that it is a lot better than his interview on Foxnews.
