But it is common in IFB's who hold dear the Word of God and do not just pick and choose what makes them feel good.

God's Word says don't forsake the assembling of yourselves together. I cannot find where it says it is ok to make excuses to stay out of Church.

Are you saying that Bapmom does not hold the word of God dear?

She is IFB and agrees with me.
She is one of the humblest people on here..
Also one of the Godliest... I hope you are not saying what it seems like you are saying

Missing one night is not forsaking
If you had to work over instead of doing something with you wife, did you forsake your wife.?...

Hypothetical:

You are on your way to church.

A boy is hit by a car, and you stop to help, thereby missing church.

Have you sinned?

and what does "forsake" mean? It means to leave it behind, to hold it in low regard. It does NOT mean there is never a valid reason to miss any individual service in your lifetime.

I know Brother Tinytim is not talking about forsaking church - missing a single service is not forsaking the assembly.

I went back and read the OP, and I cannot say Id agree with corndoggy over this. But TinyTim is not saying the same thing as the OP was.

Matthew 12
9 Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"--that they might accuse Him.
11 Then He said to them, "What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." 13 Then He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. 14 Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.

I think Jesus would have gone to the hospital.

awesome passage, isn't it? Phariseeism sees the law and not the people who the law is made for. Phariseeism enforces the law simply for the sake of keeping the law. True Christianity sees what the laws are there for (people), and does what is truly best for the people. Phariseeism makes the laws a burden, piling things on people until they are bent over double with the weight of them. Jesus looked beyond the letter and saw the spirit.

Iif you read my earlier posts you will see that I said it is all about attitude.. if your attitude is "I don't want to go to church" you have a wrong attitude...
But on the other hand, if you feel you are holier than others just because you never miss, you have a bad attitude also...

Christians should love to be in church.. we do... it is natural, we want ot be around family... But there are times we should be somewhere else...'
Also in the bigger churches, there is no way someone could attend every function the church has... we have a life.

hello all and let me say i am a youth leader and i will say that Pastor Tim done the right thing by going to the hospital to see a hurt child, if i were in the hospital i would want my pastor there all he would be because Pastor Tim is my Pastor and a very kind and loving one and i think a good pastor will be there when a person (one of the flock ) is in need

It is an awesome passage.. it is the difference between a dead and useless religion and a fulfilling relationship with the creator of the universe... I wish some could grasp this concept.. it greives me that HBSMN and others like him can't get beyond the law, and move on to grace and caring...
The law is there to show us where we fail in order to prod us to accept the grace of God.

Bro. Tim, any pastor who feels that he must attend every function at his church is not properly carrying out his role as pastor. He is not equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. The goal is to prepare members to do the work of the ministry even if the pastor IS NOT THERE.

Exactly... I have been training a guy in our church for a while now.. and when I got the call, all i had to do was ask him to teach my class.. he had not prepared anything.. but pulled it off!

I am training them to do the work of the ministry.. but tonight it was my place to be at the hospital and it was his place to teach...
I could have asked a deacon to go.. but I needed to.
Besides I got the call before the deacon got there...

It grieves me that tim and apparently his congregation think they can make excuses to be out of Church.

Apparently Tim has you blinded to what I said. I said I would visit at the hospital. I would send deacons to the hospital. I will not miss preaching to meet spiritual needs to visit at a hospital. When Church doors are open, the Pastors, the Deacons, the youth leaders, anyone who serves an office in the Church should be in the Church when the time comes for meetings.
